So give Crosby 2000 more shots, and the shooting % stays the same or improves. The only reason that would change is due to age, and his inecitable decline.
I don't think so. On average, Crosby needs to get closer to score. He shoots as many as he allowed/can to get closer. If he start to shoot from distance, his shooting% will drop significally. Crosby is a smart guy, he doesn't shoot from distance because he knows he won't get it.

So they have the puck more and pick up more secondaries by default, thank you for underlying my point.

Having the puck more is a positive in his favour though. Someone needs to drive play or no one will score. Other wingers like Gaudreau and Kane handle the puck a similar amount to most centers, so it's not entirely position dependent. As well, Ovechkin likely doesn't score as many goals in recent years if he's as puck dominant as them because it's harder to get into positions to score when you're the primary puck carrier. So it's a trade off.

Except they've both played at his pace for half seasons before
What is the most productive span of
5-10-20-41-82 games for Sid, Malkin and Ovi?

Years ago, someone posted the information and it was very interesting.

Not sure about the others but Sid had 41 game stretch before he got injured. He went 32g, 34a, +20 and 55.66 % on face off while playing with dupuis and kunitz. Not only that but in those 41 games, malkin was out for most of them. So teams really just zoned in on stopping crosby and he still put up those massive numbers. Considering the teammates and circumstances, I'd say that's more impressive than kucherovs pace at the moment.

When was the last time Crosby was ahead - if ever? Was it in 2007? Or not even then?

OV had 69 pts in 41 GP in 2009-2010. (1,68 PPG)
Crosby had 73 pts in 41 GP in 2006-2007. (1,78 PPG)
Malkin had 65 pts in 41 GP in 2011-2012. (1,58 PPG)

Im pretty sure that's the best 41 game stretch for the 3 players. Correct me if I'm wrong

Pretty sure Crosby had more points in the first 41 games of 06-07.

10-11 was special for a different reason. Beyond production, he was just dominant to an extent I haven’t seen in the post lockout era.

Too lazy to find it all now, but I know Crosby in '06-07 had 72 points in his first 43 games (1 more than Kucherov currently), and 86 in his first 50 (1.72 PPG to 1.65 for Kuch), and Ovechkin in '09-10 had 70 in his first 43 (1 less than Kuch), and had 89 in his first 53 games (1.68 PPG)

It will be a sad day in hockey if/when Crosby passes Ovechkin in points... :(

It was more like 65 in 39. Last two games he only played partially and was injured in both.

For Crosby:
5 games: 15 points (twice in Dec 2006 and Apr 2010)
10 games: 23 points (Dec 2006 - same run as the 5pt run)
20 games: 40 points (Nov/Dec 2010)
41 games: 77 points (Mar thru Dec 2006 - spanning seasons, obviously)
82 games: 140 points (Nov 2010 thru March 2013 - spanning the concussion years)

For the other two you asked:
someone else do it - that took wayyyy too long

Been a treat watching them both over their careers. Hope they still have a while before hanging them up.

Here's Ovechkin's. I only looked at 2008, 2009 and 2010 because those were his highest scoring seasons overall. Regular season only. Someone else can look through his other seasons if they're interested:
  • 5 games - 14 points (6G, 8A) - November 10th to 19th, 2008
  • 10 games - 23 points (10G, 13A) - March 27th to October 6th, 2009
  • 20 games - 39 points (16G, 23A) - January 7th to February 11th, 2010 (19 games, with a scoreless game on both sides of the streak)
  • 41 games - 69 points (27G, 42A) - this happened four times, but the streaks overlapped. The G/A split I showed was for November 28, 2009 to March 12, 2010
  • 82 games - 134 points (65G, 69A) - February 1, 2009 to February 7, 2010
Overall these numbers are a bit worse than Crosby's, especially for the longer streaks, but not enough that I'd say that there's a meaningful difference.

I'm not looking at everything for Malkin but I see one stretch of 24 points in 10 games (slightly more than what Crosby and Ovechkin have - 8G, 16A from February 2nd to 21st, 2008).

Not sure if people realize this but both of them are behind Bobby Hull for 50th place in points all time.

By the end of the week Mr Hull might be 52nd

Is this right? Malkin blew out his knee after Sid's concussion. They were without Staal for half the season. His first game that season was the Winter Classic.
