As the title suggests, should there be fines given out to teams for negligence concerning properly closing bench doors? It's an entirely avoidable circumstance that could lead to a very serious injury; and there's enough injuries in hockey as it is due to on-ice actions.

We need guys like Boeser playing, not sidelined because his teammate took his time getting off the ice and closing the door.

Treat fines like those for unsportstmanlike conduct. The fine scales up for every incident.

As a guy who broke his collarbone due to an open bench door, I approve of this message

So what exactly constitutes "negligence" and what are we calling closing them properly? I mean is there some sort of time limit on how long it takes a player to get completely through it once it's been opened? Someone with a stopwatch standing by for how soon you can open them when a player is on his way off.... ? Not sure how you see this working exactly

Seeing that Maatta is pretty scary. Makes you wonder why something hasn't been done about this already given the history and potential for serious injury. Hopefully the league will review this at some point in the near future before another player gets a terrible injury as a result of falling into the door at high speeds. Really kind of senseless and avoidable when you think about it.

This reminds me a bit of the Pacioretty hit in MTL that basically forced the league to address the sharp angled glass around the benches. Looking back on it, it seems kind of idiotic that it took that long and an event such as that to push the league to make that change.

Make it a 2 minute penalty anytime that a door is opened while play is going on. Use the doors as much as you want while play is stopped, but have to go over the boards while play is live.

Toews hasnt looked the same since being checked into an open bench door against the blues back in 2016 there should be something done for what is a preventable circumstance
