Should the NHL accept gambling and start a lottery of their own?

There is obviously lots of $$$ in gambling and profits could be shared amongst NHL franchises.

What do you think?

Many states, provinces, municipalities, etc., prohibit "lotteries" (or allow "only" specific lotteries).

Some provinces do have lotteries (Alberta IIRC) that benefit the local NHL teams.

Lots of legal issues for 14 states, two dozen counties/parishes, two dozen cities -- and that's just the US side.

Most lotteries are run by the government to some extent with the vast majority of revenues going to education programs.

Yeah I am pretty sure the Oilers have/had a lottery game setup to add revenue when the Canadian dollar was low. Once started....I doubt it would stop.
All lottery games go through the Provincial government....and I highly doubt many would be wiling to share their gaming revenue with sports franchises, except in extreme cases like the Oilers were in. Which should really show how strongly the Alberta government felt about helping the Oilers when they needed it.
If the Senators or Jets fell into a similar situation I am sure there would be talk about this....but only as a last resort.
In the US....I am not sure how the laws work....but there are about 5 teams that could use lottery revenues right about now.....

I can't imagine a US state agreeing to share lottery money with a sports team. They'll pass new taxes to build arenas, and sneakily cut sweetheart deals, but direct subsidy is something different. Political landmine.

Already have a limited version at least with baseball (yankees and mets) and football with scratch offs. Im sure the licensing fees are a pretty penny off those in the states.

I know the Bruins have a state lottery scratcher (as I usually hear one or more ads when I listen to games on NHL Home Ice).

Hawks have an Illinois Lottery scratch card as well. Pretty sure they pay the state to do it. (Hawks marketing is pretty all out since the Rocky/McD ere began)

Came in here honestly expecting this to be about starting a draft lottery, and confused as to how TC didn't know about it already.

Regardless, not seeing an actual lottery in the NHL's future. The 50/50 raffles that some teams have are enough.

Canucks have (or had? I haven't looked for it in awhile) scratch and win tickets.
I got one in my Christmas stocking a couple of years ago. Won $15 :)
