The ref was foolish to wag his finger in his face like that. It's one of the first things you learn not to do when dealing with hostile situations. It's a good way to escalate things rather than calming them down.

Edit: in fact I'd say the way ref #6 handled that entire situation was inappropriate.

Slightly off-topic, but what on earth is Devin DiDiomete doing in SHL?

Edit - I'm on iPhone and the video won't play out of the forum, but if you click the link it opens and plays fine in the app.

Well if you can choke someone until they tap you've earned the finger wag of disciple.

Usually, I am not a big fan of the refs. These players kept trying to fight and involve the bench of one team. All the officials were trying to stop it. The ref did what was needed to stop it after #17 shoved him down to the ice and then resisted him for 20 seconds. Don't fight with the on ice officials! In North America, that player would get suspended for about 3 to 5 games for doing that.

I disagree. Only the finger wag was inappropriate. #17 shoved him (#6 Ref) down to the ice and was wrestling with him for at least 20 seconds after that. It nearly became a bench clearing brawl. The on ice officials were all working to stop it, but some of the guys with the white jerseys kept agitating the other team on the ice and even their bench.

didnt seem as dramatic as the original posts made it appear.

He stopped "going after" the ref very quickly, and the "tap out" seemed to be immediate. As if he was saying "Oh ****, you arent an opposing player. Ok Ok, im done"

It looks like he wasnt aware he was going after the referee until he had already taken him to the ice.

Referee wasn't gonna take any chance seeing another player had almost ran over and manhandled a 2 linesmen.

^^^ Agreed on all points there.

The most belittling part of the video is the finger in the face while on your knees.
