Far from an expert opinion, just want to post a prediction and see how (un)accurate it will b e.
1st.
: Rasmus Dahlin- No brainer here, let's not waste time.
2nd.
: Andrei Svechnikov- Same as above
3rd.
: Fliip Zadina- If they don't trade back, which I think they will, they take the most talented player available. They need a D man or center but that wouldn't be the best pick for them at #3.
4th.
Adam Boqvist- Most seem to have them taking Brady Tkachuk, but since they are entering full on rebuild mode that wouldn't make too much sense to me. Tkachuk is nice but he doesn't have the highest upside, and that's what Ottawa needs most at this point. Boqvist has some risks to his game, but he has the potential to be the #2 D man in the draft.
5th.
Brady Tkachuk- The Coyotes are a team seemingly on the rise to become potential playoff contenders, which means they should feel comfortable picking a guy who shouldn't take too long to develop in Brady Tkachuk. His size and steadiness should compliment Keller's speed and skill quite nicely down the road.
6th.
Quinn Hughes- Michigan team takes the Michigan product. Quinn Hughes seems to be the ideal defenseman for a team in complete rebuild mode. No trouble seeing him becoming Detroit's corner stone defenseman down the road.
7th.
Noah Dobson- The Nucks are in similar position to that the Wings are in, and take stud defenseman Noah Dobson. Dobson is your prototypical two D man who can do almost anything you ask from him.
8th.
Evan Bouchard- The temptation to pick Wahlstrom or Kotakiemi is very real here, but Evan Bouchard would be the smart choice , especially since Keith and Seabrook are sowing down faster than they may have expected. Bouchard has great offensive instincts and should fit in well for Chicago.
9th.
Oliver Wahlstrom- A defenseman is probably their #1 need, but with the top 5 all gone they decide to take the offensive flame thrower in Oliver Wahlstrom. It's been a while since the Rangers had a pure goal scorer and Wahlstrom could easily fill that void. With 3 first round picks, they'll pick for need later on.
10th.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi- The Oilers should be more than happy to take the smart Finnish center who could slot in behind McDavid quite nicely. Kotkaniemi should take some pressure off of Draisaitl as well, letting him stay on the wing where he feels more comfortable.
11th.
Ty Smith- It's hard to get a read on what Lou might do on draft day with 2 consecutive picks, which I don't expect them to keep. But, for the sake of this mock draft they do and select Ty Smith, who should help their depleted back end. Ty Smith has the reputation of a pure offensive Defenseman, but he has nice instincts when defending the rush as well. He's not the guy I wuld want leading a PK but with his transition game he should help the Islanders' defensive game quite nicely.
12th. Joe Veleno- Veleno plays a pretty complete game in all ends, but might lack the explosiveness many thought he would have had going into the year. With Tavares most likely coming back and Barzal dominating as #2C, there's really no pressure for Veleno who can shine as a #3, he can take a lot of pressure off of Tavares and Barzal.
13th.
Rasmus Kupari- The Stars seem to like drafting European players recently. Plus, they need another center with upside now that Spezza is slowing down. Kupari has the skill to be a #2 center in this league if he can pull it together. He gets criticized for relying on talent alone, but if the coaches do what they get paid to do they can reel him in and teach him to utilize his talents.
14th.
Joel Farabee- As much as Hextall may be tempted to take Morgan Frost's teammate and hockey IQ extraordinaire Barrett Hayton, Joel Farabee would be the smarter choice right here. Farabee has a nice combination of floor and upside and will help the Flyers with secondary scoring immensely.
15th.
Bode Wilde- The Panthers are pretty much set forward-wise, so they can afford to take the big D man who is a bit of a project. It will probably take a little while for Wilde to reach his full potential, but he's good value at #15 for Florida.
16th.
Vitaly Kravtsov- After re-stocking their defensive pool last year by taking Makar, Timmins and then trading for Samuel Girard, Colorado takes the forward with the highest upside available in Vitaly Kravtsov.
17th.
K'Andre Miller- With no picks in rounds 2 or 3, the Devils go for need with K'Andre Miller and pass up on some talented forwards.
18th.
Barrett Hayton- Good 2 way center, should fit in Tortorella's system.
19th. Martin Kaut- Smart 2 way forward who apparently interviewed will with the Flyers. Definitely seems like a player Hextall would want.
20th.
Jesse Ylonen- It's a bit of a reach but Ylonen is a very fast and skilled playmaker that the Kings could really use. He definitely has the upside to make this payoff.
21st.
Domonik Bokk- Bokk just seems like such a Sharks-y name.
22nd. Grigori Denisenko- As I said earlier the Senators need to take the best talents available and hope for the best. Denisenko has the potential to possbly be the next Nikita Kucherov. The Sens would be thrilled if that were the case.
23rd.
Akil Thomas- The Ducks take the solid all around center to hopefully replace Ryan Kesler when the time comes, and it may be soon.
24th.
Serron Noel- There's just something fitting about Noel playing in a red and green jersey isn't there?
25th.
Jonatan Berggren- Even though the Leafs are pretty much set when it comes to the forward position, Berggren just seems to be a great fit for the Leafs team. Undersized a touch, but makes up for it in skill.
26th. Rasmus Sandin- The Rangers finally get a chance to address their need for defense with the Swedish defenseman from Sault St Marie.
27th. Isaac Lundstrom- Lundstrom's lack of apparent upside probably causes him to fall come draft day, but he should find success in Chicago with his 2 way play. Chicago would be thrilled to see him fall this far.
28th. Johnny Tychonick- Ugh, haven't we had enough of these guys again for one round? Tychonick probably has a little more offensive pop to his game than Sandin does, which would make him a great compliment.
29th.
Alexander Alexeyev- The Blues have a strong 4 horseman group of forward prospects in Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas, Klim Kostin, and Tage Thompson, so picking Alexeyev would be a good way to start replenishing their defensive system.
30th. Blake McLaughlin- We're starting to get to the part of the draft where it just gets random and there's almost no use in even trying to guess accurately. Blake McLaughlin is good, and Detroit needs good.
31st.
Jacob Olofsson- A pretty safe player without sky high upside, but when you're the Cup champs you don't really want to rock the boat too much. They can pretty much count on Olofsson to contribute down the road in a bottom 6 role.
