They wanted Pastrnak and a 1st for sure.
Sweeney said they aren't giving him up thank goodness.

I don't think you're trading Shatty.

I think we eventually do. I also think Army would eventually move past Pastrnak. You'd be dumb to move him, but Army would be dumb not to ask. You never know if the other GM took crazy pills and moves Forsberg for Erat.

With the amount of prospects that Boston has, they can put together one of the better futures packages IMO. There are quite a few that I would like in a deal. I think if Sweeney is willing to make a good future offer, that doesn't include Pastrnak, he'd still have a very good chance of landing him.

It's a possibility for sure.
If Colin Miller doesn't work out to start the season on the right side D or injuries occur they could call again.
They do need RD badly.

when I brought up a 3-way deal, I wasn't suggesting that was going to change Shatty's mind regarding Edmonton.

But trading with a partner who needs to send a D in the deal, that D goes to Edmonton.

otherwise, I know people are suggesting a deal with Philly doesn't make sense but a swap including Shatty and Gudas + could work if other team needs are addressed. Gudas would slot into the 3rd pairing behind Parayko and would become a fan favorite quickly.

So, for fun, what would be the + StLouis would want with Gudas?

I'm not sure I understand. Is Gudas the centerpiece? We have a similar player in Bortuzzo on the 3rd pairing. I don't think a slight upgrade to the 3rd pairing is worth blowing Shattenkirk on. Unless I misunderstand and the '+' is something much better than Gudas in your plan

Gudas is MUCH better than Bortuzzo.
That's still a horrible trade. The Blues have Jordan Schmaltz as a future replacement for Shattenkirk. He might not be playing full-time until 2017 but wasting Shattenkirk's value on a 3rd-pairing defenseman really does nothing to help the team. It's not a need.

If they're trading Shattenkirk for Gudas, why not just keep Shattenkirk and then let Schmaltz make the team out of 2017 camp when Shatty walks? Because that would absolutely happen.

Schmaltz does not play the same game as Gudas. I would put Gudas as a better, more physical version of Polak. We don't need a replacement for Shatty and Gudas would be a part of a package return.

I am fine with keeping Shatty but moving him for a package that includes Gudas free's up Parayko to play on the 2nd line and give us a 3rd pairing D who can has some offensive potential but is solid defensively and is a sonofa***** to play against. If we want defence better than Bortuzzo who is equally difficult to play against, Gudas is exactly the type of player we should be focusing on.

a 1st and a top prospect should be a part of that package for an extended Shatty.

Philly fans aren't all that enthusiastic about trading for Shattenkirk to begin with. Zero chance they would even consider Gudas+1st+top prospect.

As for Gudas....pass, dude is going to have a target on his back from the league.

Why are we trading Shattenkirk, a first pairing defenseman, for an upgrade to our already capable 3rd pairing?

Gudas does not seem to make sense for StL when you already have Pietrangelo and Parayko on the right side. Gudas is a physical middle pairing Dman now....something you don't need.

He is paid 3.35 million to be a top 4 Dman, not an overpaid bottom pairing one. And like last year, he will get the toughest matchups of our right side Dman, leaving Ghost and Streit to focus on offense.

Doesn't seem to be a match here.

Would you be willing to trade a package centered around Zacha for an extended Shatty then?

Yes, I would. Most Devil fans would not, though.

Also really depends on what add you expect in addition to Zacha. Not sure I'd be willing to give up much more when he could make it to UFA next year and we get him for free.

I really believe he will be a Devil if he reaches UFA next offseason. Perfect fit + enormous amount of cap compared to other teams that will be in the market

The Devils will be in the position to overpay and give him 7 per and term. Not many other teams can do that while also offering a realistic shot at the playoffs and a chance to play near home (not sure if this last part matters, but it can't hurt).

If the Devils put Zacha on the table, even if Shattenkirk was extended, I don't think the addition would be outrageous if there is any addition.

Zacha for Shattenkirk extended 6 years, 6 per.

Done. Like I said though, most Devil fans will disagree.

I would agree that the + wouldn't need to be much if anything at all. Maybe like a 3rd or 4th round pick or a project prospect.

If Shattenkirk is moved for Gudas + one of Sanheim/Morin/Konecny, it would free up trading Schmaltz for an equivalent forward prospect. With Walman/Dunn coming up on the left side and Petro/Parayko able to play PP on the right, Schmaltz isn't exactly a necessity.

Gudas would also give a steady veteran defensive D to pair with Walman/Dunn when they break into the league.

The Flyers are not trading Gudas + one of those prospects for Shattinkirk.

The longer the situation drags on, the more likely Boston seems as the likely destination. Something along the lines of Shattenkirk (extended for 7 x $6.5M) + Jaskin/Rattie for Spooner + Colin Miller + Senyshyn when/if the Bs sign Vesey probably makes sense for both sides from a needs and cap perspective. I suspect both fan bases might be a little disappointed, but it feels like an "Army deal" from a Blues fan's perspective and, from what I've read from Bruins posters, sounds like a deal that Sweeney would make as well.

I don't see Collin Miller being of any interest to us.
We have Bortuzzo, Lindbohm, Schmaltz, Chris Butler, Brad Hunt, Morgan Ellis and possibly even Tommy Vannelli(he'd be strictly a PP specialist, but that's actually the role we need filled) to fill our 6/7/8 spots. The Blues are currently 12 deep on defense even without Shattenkirk.

Spooner and Senyshyn is a very good start, but I think we'd want something other than Miller as the final piece. It's a real shame Khoklachev went back to Russia, because he'd be a very ideal fit for us.

I added Miller as more of a need for the Bruins to make room on their blue line than to add any significant value for the Blues. He could just as easily be omitted and have the value balanced differently.

Boston continues to be the best fit:

Cap space: check
Young, cheap, attractive assets: check
A giant gaping hole at RHD: check
A giant gaping hole at PMD: check
Pressure to make the playoffs NOW: check
A place Shattenkirk will certainly re-sign: check

I agree. It does seem strange to me that they haven't upgraded the D and seemingly don't have much of a need for Spooner if Backes is gonna center the 3rd line. They also have an overwhelmingly amount of people that are LH wingers. It may just hinge on them officially getting Vesey. If so, they have Marchand, Beleskey, Vesey, and Vatrano all capable of player the wings. Not much for Spooner to do. I hope they don't move him because I'd rather see Backes as a RW where we have a huge hole, but I would understand it.

Part of me thinks that Boston is waiting on Vesey and then they make a move.
