He has an overage season left. There’s no reason for him not to play In the QMJHL when the Sharks have no idea when next season will begin.

Based on the current developmental philosophy, it's probably safe to assume that any Sharks prospect in the CHL will inevitably play an OA season if they clearly haven't played their way out of the CHL. I will admit that I thought Kotkov was a year older than he actually is. So I also figured he would be headed to the AHL or Europe

Yeah for some reason I thought he already played his overage

Everything Ive read about Handemark pretty much tabs him as a faceoff specialist. It would be great to see him show that he is also a capable scorer on a consistent basis as well.

Even if he will just win faceoffs, hit hard and play aggressive (leader in SHL on PIM in 2018/19) it will be good. We lost Dillon and Goodrow so we need it very much.
He sounds like a perfect 4c. Hopefully Bergmann has a good off-season and can challenge for a spot on the 4th line too. I’d much rather have a 4th line of big guys who play with some snarl than just the leftover guys who weren’t good enough to play on the scoring lines.

Bergmann-Handemark-Noesen

Could be a fun line if Handemark comes in as advertised, and Bergmann keeps developing.
Knock some guys around and score some scrappy goals.

Yassssss

Time to add some snarl to the lineup since we will definitely have a lack of skill

Sign me up for that line. With Handemark on a 1 year deal expiring as a UFA, have to imagine he gets every chance to be a regular this season. Would love to add a speedy 3C and let Thornton sign elsewhere while we’re at it in terms of reshaping the roster makeup.

you guys still bullish on merkley?

what's your top 10 prospect list looking like these days? i like kniazev, kind of a sleeper for me.
Yes. He had a great year. Most notably off ice and off puck improvements.

Leonard is looking like a legit top 6 prospect.

EDIT: completely forgot about melchinuk and Dahlen. I’d put Dahlen between Gregor and Kniazev. Pure boom or bust player.

Melchinuk appears to have above average starter potential, but we’ve yet to see him play in NA, so we’ll see if it transfers over.

1. Merkley - Top 4 offensive D man with PP1 quarterback specialist, ala shattenkirk
2. Leonard - Top 6 goal scoring winger. Above average skater, great shot, great hands.
3. Chemelvelski - Two way middle six center
4. Blichfeld - Middle six winter with a cannon of a shot. Can see him being like Olofsson if everything goes right.
5. Pasichnuk - Bottom 4 D man with offensive skill
6. Gregor - will definitely be an NHLer, but probably be a third liner
7. Kniazev - Wild card here. Looks the part of a top 4 D man sometimes, but the numbers just aren’t there.
8 Hatakka - Smooth skating, PMD. Limited offensive upside
9 Hamaliuk - Got mono and came back way too early, but really came on strong the last bit of the season. Same thing happened with Timo his rookie year. Think he’ll carve out an NHL career because he’s huge and plays physically, so if he doesn’t get the scoring together, he can have a role in the bottom 6
10. Chekhovich - lit up juniors, but is struggling with pro leagues. Skill is there, but his confidence is shot. Will either be a middle six winger or nothing.

Where's Melnichuk? We have a dude in Sweden who's supposed to be pretty good too. Other than that I like the top 10.

List looks good and a lot better than a few years back. I am bummed to see Chekhovich that far low but it is deserving. The one bright spot with Chekhovich is that he definitely looks to have improved as the season went on. He only had 12 points in 42 games but 2/3rd's of this points (8) came in the last 14 games he played (1/3rd of the season). With him I do not think its a question of skill. Confidence and just general on-ice awareness.
