Agreed, IMO Sharks would be better off.

Its nice to have a GM who's done a good job & managed to last this long, but everything goes stale at some point. Time to get some fresh legs in there, clearly Wilson's way of doing things isn't working.

Its quite impressive he's lasted so long without a Stanley Cup to show for his time

He traded a 2nd rounder for Evander Kane as a playoff rental. I thought, nice trade. Smart GM. Then he signed Kane to a long term big money deal which also turned the 2nd rounder into a 1st rounder. I thought, holy shit. This guy is a f***ing idiot.

right, cause a 30 goal winger in his twenties is totally not worth the 29th pick in the draft.

Does anyone know how much money Doug Wilson has made as a GM?

Nah they're done. 11 points back with 32 to go is quite a bit. They also have to pass a bunch of teams. They were done before logan couture was out for another month, now they're more likey looking at a battle with LA and Anaheim for worst in the conference than a chance at a playoff spot.

Agreed, I saw a stat that San Jose has made the playoffs in like 19/21 of the last seasons? That's pretty much as good as Detroit's run until their recent rebuild (Cups aside).

I thought it was amusing that people were calling Doug Wilson one of the best GMs in the league after the Hoffman and Karlsson trades last offseason, and now a lot of people are saying he's trash. Ah to be able to use hindsight to judge a GM's job, what a poor way to measure a job.

Wilson's had a good run with the Sharks but this season has proven the Sharks need to hit the reset button and start, as best as possible, from scratch.

Wilson wins a Cup within 5 years with the team he joins after the Sharks

He’s not getting fired. This isn’t a coach getting a vote of confidence, it’s the gm

Except the EK deal isn’t working out for us at all. He signed a player for a lot of money with a lot of years who not only is a defensive liability but is injury prone. He did all this without taking into account that our defensive depth greatly lacks, how we already have a offensive defenseman in Burns, and that we have no true top center spot at the moment. His Jones and Vlasic contracts are also aging very poorly.

For every amazing move he does, he makes 3-4 bad ones in between, but feeds off that one move he made. He lives for the big name buys and everyone gets excited, but that’s all while ignoring the basic needs of this team.

I feel bad for him. You look at the players he committed the franchise to...and there are probably 28 GMs that would have done the same thing.

Those players just haven't performed. Shame.

Disagree. 20 mill a year for 2 defensemen who don't play a lick of defense is brutal. They had a solid team and were a goalie away. Could have traded Pavelski or Marleau for the last piece and lost them to FA for nothing. Too afraid to trade anybody.

You're still going on incorrectly about Marleau and Pavelski when you clearly don’t understand anything about the Sharks or their situation at any given time? Just stop man. You’re embarrassing yourself.

You’re still here? You ignored me in the other thread. We made the finals with them and then we make the conference finals the next year. You’re still embarrassing yourself bro.

And you have 0 cups to show for it... It's called asset management. You move players to get better players in areas you need to ice a better overall team to win a Championship.

Not as embarrassing as bragging about almost getting the job done for 20 years and counting, "bro".

Wow it's so straightforward it's a miracle more teams don't win cups every year

I’m not bragging actually if you look at his post he said to trade two key player’s before the finals. I’m explaining why if we did that, we wouldn’t have made the finals. Thanks though, great input. Good to have you contributing.

Edit: And wait, aren’t you a Kings fan? I’m not great at math but didn’t it take you guys a little longer than 20 years to win a cup? Like, a lot longer? Also, sure we’ve had Joe Thornton in his prime and people like to talk about key players not getting it done here but I’m pretty sure you guys had a really good player for like, 12 years that couldn’t get it done. What was his name, the good one? Sorry, before my time. But at least San Jose has a lot of time left if we’re going by the King’s clock.
