Putting new emphasis on food. From oversized meals to novelties (color changing utensils) - something Instagram worthy.

What’s being marketed is not just the food, however, but the idea that you’ll have a great time at the game even if things don’t turn out so well for the Sharks on the ice.

“We don’t compete for a sports dollar,” Becher said. “We compete for an entertainment dollar.”

One of the new food things this season is monthly rotation of a "food truck" (people/food from a local food truck, but without the truck inside the arena). And what works in San Jose isn't the same in other locations. (Know your fans)

How the San Jose Sharks Score With Fan Experience

(Podcast intro)

Jonathan Becher, Co-President of the San Jose Sharks and former CMO of SAP, talks about his journey from a corporate giant to working in the front office for an NHL team. Becher provides insights on helping expand SAP’s reach in the sports industry, how the team works to create Sharks fans for life, and why he views team employees as brand ambassadors.

Rotating food trucks is a brilliant idea. Canes have done something similar in the past to highlight local food/beer/art.

Given how much pro sports has moved toward the "premium entertainment" model, this creates the kind of game-to-game variety that retains customer interest and opens wallets. $15 for tempura shrimp from a local company is less offensive than $15 for a generic burger from the concession stand.

I remember reading the Sharks have a pretty terrible TV rights contract, how much longer is left on it?

IMHO if the Sharks wanna make some big buck$...All they would need to do is go back to their original jerseys from the early 90s...Those are sharp!

They did. The Heritage jersey was the "current" teal color with the original style arm stripes (and I think they did the "leaping Shark" logo on the front rather than the original triangle or updated triangle).
