Yeah you don't just hand over oyur team to a guy who has played a grand total of 7 AHL games.... and done it poorly.

As for "cheap ufa"... who might that be? Why would said player sign with SJ? Is that player going to be better than Dubnyk? If an unknown cheap UFA goalie is going to be better than Dubnyk why wouldn't a team wanting to improve their goaltending for this playoff run give up an asset for that guy instead of Dubnyk?
He would be an improvement on Jones. Not Dubnyk. The shatks aren't really competing for a playoff spot so they aren't looking to invest cap and term in goaltending.

Leafs should make a lowball offer for Dubnyk. Put Andersen on LTIR and give Dub a try behind a better team. Might revive his career.. might not.

The teams that have those potential cheap ufa goalies may not be willing to trade them this season. For instance, someone like Brossoit or Dreidger could want to go to San Jose to start rather than backup so they can up their value. There’s always options in net via ufa that the team should pursue. Maybe even do a similar deal like they did with the Wild where they bring in a cap dump goalie on his last year so we can get a young player.

As for Dubnyk, if they get anything better than a 6th then they made out ahead on getting him.

Is this the year that the Leafs want to throw things at their net to see if they stick? If Andersen isn't the guy, maybe they should go and get a good goalie?

Colour me naive but over .900 on a losing team isnt that bad. He could be legit on a team that eliminates high pct chances. He will get a 2nd with an offsetting cap dump going the other way.

That would be outstanding, but might be a bit much too hope for. If he can return a 3rd, Wilson will have done well, but anyone who offers a 2nd for Dubnyk gets him the moment its' offered. Unfortunately, Sharks fans are completely irrational jaded by 3rd round picks. Outside Greiss, I don't think we've ever had one work out.

Also, he's been pretty solid behind a team which hemorages chances. Credit to Nabokov to seeing something about Dubnyk- virtually every Sharks fan hated the pick up- but trust in Nabby.

I also like that Dubnyk has a bit of that "insane goalie" thing ala (recently) Mike Smith. Jones is such an automaton, it's nice to have someone take swipes and not take bullshit.

Did you miss the last 5 years where he played on a team with least High Danger Scoring Chances in the league and still put up a ~.900 with one of the worst save percentages below expected for a starting goalie in the advanced stats era? He is actually doing better facing higher danger chances, his biggest drawback has always been his consistency in letting in 1-2 extremely soft goals and losing the trust of his teammates.

For there to be trust in Nabby, there needs to be more in way of results than Dubnyk sporting fairly pedestrian numbers and Jones still being horrific.
