Vegas vs SJ? Yeah. Vegas is a better organisation, they have some really good longterm contracts and intriguing young players coming up.

Look at San Jose's salary cap. They have an aging core and have a ton of BIG contracts with term. Even if Erik Karlsson's $11.5M AAV contract is a good one (and I don't think it is), they have a ton of money tied up in Burns ($8M AAV through 2024-25 when he's age 40), Vlasic ($7M AAV through 2025-26 when he's age 39), and Couture ($8M AAV through 2025-26, when he's age 38). That's in addition to Kane (signed at $7M AAV through 2024-25), Meir and Hertl (both of whom earn a $5-6M already and need to be re-signed). And of course LaBlanc who is a pending RFA.

SJ better pray for buyouts in connection with the next CBA. Without those, they are probably 1-2 years away from a Detroit like cap meltdown (probably worse).

How do you guys think he compares with Boudreau in terms of minutes distribution and scheme? When the Ducks were coached by him, a few of the players had career years and they seemed very loose and having fun. Of course that team had a lot of players in their peak. Maybe we got so used to Carlyle's dinosaur coaching that any modern coaching scheme feels very much like a vast improvement.

BB didn’t ride Getzlaf and Kesler as hard as Carlyle did but he definitely still overplayed them.

I think the career years were more the fact they were in their prime than anything else.

BB also played a more agressive forecheck system. Im pretty sure he had a 2 man forechack and RC only employed a single player.

+ Martin Jones gets 5.75million per year thru 2023-24 season and has a modified NTC too. Dell looked better than Jones but still isn't a very good backup.

That makes the John Gibson contract look like they are paying him pennies. Jones is 30 soon too.
