Hm. That’s interesting. I always thought the NBA was the biggest by a mile when it came to sales and value. The fact that franchises are considering moving is eye-opening to me.

the NBA (seemingly) has it all, and as a hockey fan, makes me jealous. Just look at here in the states. The NBA has multiple networks that can air NBA games, multiple big corporations that can advertise with them, sponsorships, etc. and it’s suddenly a problem with these Franchises?

Let’s not forget (politics aside) that China has a major investment and play with the NBA.

Eh i am not buying this. New owners yes but for current markets. Even if a team was up for relocation what makes him think its going to be vegas? There is a much bigger stronger market that will get getting a new arena built and that is Seattle.

My best guess.

Blazers - This would be the franchise I would be most confident on selling. Seattle times reported vulcan capital did consult on its worth and Jody Allen is going to sell this team, it's just a matter of when and untangling the assets.

When new arena with old roof is opened in Seattle area, a NBA team may be a welcome second anchor tenant.

They may have more of a case for relocation than LV.

The only nba team that someone can justify moving without arena issues is Memphis . The market isn’t that viable even in an economic boom period.

I could see Seattle, LV and Vancouver all getting teams in the next few seasons. The lost revenues from this season and some of next will be too much for some markets to recover from.

MGM Resorts has already been laying groundwork for an NBA team to play at T-Mobile Arena That's why MGM bought WNBA team

I could see it considering the outrageous prices that have been paid for NBA teams recently or atleast the high valuation of them.

There certainly could be a market correction in that regard and some owners might want to liquidate some assets before a potential big crash due to Corona materializes more...

I also wonder if it is the Charlotte Hornets...
That team has been going nowhere for a long time and Shaq might have some connection to MJ...

I wonder how close Shaq is with the owners circle to really know teams may be for sale, though some have noted possibly with Jordan.

First it would come down to how many arena leases are close to expiring or have an out clause? Memphis has an out in 2021 but understand there are still safeguards from the city to prevent it. Lease is up in 2027.

New Orleans is up in 2024 but would Benson consider parting with it?

Also, who would be the would be owner in Vegas? I think that market it going to take longer to recover from this. Can they support a 3rd major league team so soon?

Bonderman in Seattle could buy out the rest of the lease in Memphis. I am sure the city would take a payment over being a lame duck and losing money having the Grizzlies there.

I think they said they wanted a 3 years window between the seattle NHL team starting and bringing in the NBA team

And VGK ownership wanted to reach the playoffs in year 3, but made it in year 1. If it's available, they may jump sooner than later.

Depends on whether NBA will allow corporation to own (ala MGM) or if it has to be individuals, like Foley (with Maloofs in background).

Define "longer". Longer than what? What it took to recover from 2008 economic issues? What the rest of the country/world faces?

Define "they". The corporations can definitely host and game produce any time. Sponsorships might be national heavy, rather than local emphasis. Local fans? Depends on ticket pricing and interest. But I'm guessing the novelty for visiting fans might ensure the games are SRO.

The big market teams are always flush. Some of small market teams are basically the 2019-20 Red Wings for a decade straight.

MLSE is 75% corporate (Rogers and Bell 37.5% each), so if MGM is interested in a stake plus they own part of T Mobile I believe. They should be able to make it work there in the long run.

Short term, how many companies will have discretional funds for sponsorships, suites etc...ad money for TV? This will be in addition to what is being spent on the Knights and Raiders. The economy will take time to recover that's even less $$$ to spread between a 3rd team.

Situations can change to where there's a team suddenly available that is movable, They'll jump to put a bid for that team if the were to happen sooner. I don't see any teams moving anyways this year.

Las Vegas isn't getting another major league team. Their economy must have taken absolute blow from the rona.

$3B loss was mentioned when casinos closed (that may have included all the lost conventions/events which already cancelled in February/March and future months before the shutdown). Wynn, MGM and Caesars, publicly traded companies have not had good reports.

Here's a list of cancelled events circa March 12 (about a week before the city was closed)
List of Las Vegas events affected by coronavirus worries

That doesn't include dozens of other events (large and small) through the summer. EDC (which draws hundred thousand+). Dressage/Jumping World Cup (to help select US and other country Olympic teams). And today they just announced cancellation of Ren Faire.

$10 B? Perhaps that's even conservative.

There were rumors about Vegas back when Gores bought the Pistons.

A lot of people in Detroit thought the league wouldn't let them move back then when squashing the rumor, but just for another name I have not seen listed here.

Aw come on. Can we please not oversaturate our market so damn quickly?

Vegas was already more of a basketball town as it is with the Running Rebels former glory.

You act like Vegas isn't the kind of town that can immediately bounce back once people are free to go be tourists. Not that I want us to get another team right now.

Of course, Vegas will bounce back....at some point. But if you can't even be sure what year that point will be..(remember vaccines don't come based on whether you really really need them and no politician or entrepreneur can procure them out of thin air) you know a lot of people there are losing so much money in the meantime that they won't be able to take advantage of the recovery when it does come.

The pistons seem to be happy with their lease with the Ilitch family and tom gores grew up in Michigan i believe.

100%-just because Kilmer Sports isn't household name, doesn't mean that Larry Tanenbaum's comapany doesn't have the
remaining 25%
