Who would have thought that an injury time goal by Iceland against Austria would start a chain that led Portugal all the way to the Final? Amazing how these tournaments turn out sometimes.

Eh turned it off. What a let down of a game...

May have been a different game with Ramsey and Davies. And that's where we need to reassess the whole disciplinary system. 5 games to accumulate 2 yellows and you're done for the SF? Lame.

In the 16 team format, they maybe wouldn't have made it out of the group stage. I absolutely hate the 24 team format.

Portugal with their first decent game. Deserved win.

Someone needs to hurry up and employ Ryan Giggs again. He's a dreadful pundit.

Agreed. He makes such smart & aggressive runs. I can't wait to watch him flying over the left flank of BVB's 3-4-3/3-1-4-2...especially once Passlack takes over on the right.

...in a year or two they'll be just too sexy with:

    ....Reus - Dembele
    Guerreiro - Pulisic - Gotze - Passlack
    Weigl
    Merino - Bartra - Ginter
    Burki

    Mor, Mangala, Burnic, Rode, Beste

Croatia & Poland are closer to france/germany than they are to England. And Wales-England is at the very least debatable at this tourney.

Portugal have accomplished it hideously...f*** santos...but they've earned the right to lose to Germany again :yo:

...Croatia & Poland were both better than Belgium...

It'll be a tense match, but even if we play Howedes next to Boa I'll feel better about our backline than Evilo will theirs. With a midfield that can control the ball against them if we don't over-use Schweini's corpse; we can still pull it off...though it would've been nice to have Mats, Sami and the Mez around.

Oh well, Wales made it to the semi, great job! Can't complain about that. Now, hopefully France wins it all.

If that's as good as Portugal have played all tournament then it is a shame they're in the final.

Lol, I keep on seeing that Ronaldo has tied Platini for number of goals scored in a Euro.
Indeed, both have 9. Except Platini scored all of them in one tournament, Ronaldo in 4 tournaments

Some newspapers should just think twice before trying to write stupid articles about useless numbers.

People aren't giving Portugal enough credit. Croatia and Poland were both legit teams. Germany drew Poland 0-0 in case some forget while Wales had looked great in the tournament so far. Just give some credit instead of *****ing all the time.

Ronaldo comes up big in another big game. The hate keeps pouring in.

I think I understand what you're getting at... Given that Germany > Ronaldo every time that it matters; and that we now know that Ronaldo = Platini; Germany is a lock to win tomorrow, as this current french team doesn't have anyone as good as Platini...

Finally a post without some irrational anger fueled hatred attached to it.

First of all let me give my thoughts on how we play: Is Fernando Santos a ****ing ****** with his pragmatic defensive safe approach considering the good group of talented young players we have coming up right now? **** yes, we can play So much better in terms of possession and playing fluid footy.

Yet this **** style has resulted in a final....which makes me irrationally not cheer as much as I could due to knowing we could play better, and that in 2 years when we'll have a far more capable team individually..we'll probably still play this crap.

Second of all lets see how we got here:

Against Iceland, Austria, and Hungary we absolutely dominated them. We owned possession, created bucket loads of chances, and couldnt finish, it was unreal to watch. If anything we were ridiculously unlucky..especially with Hungary scoring 2 deflected long range goals in 10 minutes.

People say under the old format we would have been eliminated under the old format, but forget to mention that if it was only a 16 team tournament (as it should be imho) that teams wouldnt have been anywhere near as defensive against us knowing that they'd need more than a single point...and those bunkering teams opening up would have suited us so much more.

Now onto Croatia: Yes we bunkered as Santos makes us play against top quality teams, lining us up like a minnow shamefully. But Croatia also played cautiously and respected us a lot by not pushing forward as much as they could have. When they did at the end of ET they finally got their first shot on target.....30 seconds before we scored. It was something both sides guarded against, because once they knew one would open up, the other would have space to exploit them and be dangerous.

Poland- Bar the first 15 minutes we were comfortably in control of the match, had more possession and shots on a goal, and if Ronaldo didnt miss two sitters it would have been over in 90.

Today vs Wales: We blitzed them in the second half without even really forcing it too much and missing pepe/william/Bernardo Silva...should have ended 3/4-0.

Gurreiro was excellent today, as was Joao Mario.

We will be underdogs in the final, heavily. Both France and Germany are better teams in terms of individual players and France would be at home, while Germany can be pragmatic and tactically astute as well.

    Historically we suffer against both:

Germany beat us 3-1 in 2006 World Cup third place game
Germany beat us 3-2 in Euro 2008 quarter final
Germany beat us 1-0 in the opening group stage match of Euro 2012
Germany beat us 4-0 in the opening match of World Cup 2014, which effectively knocked us out due to Pepe's red card and Coentrao getting injured

France beat us 3-2 in Euro 1984 final
France beat us 2-1 in Euro 2000 Semi final in ET in one of the best matches I've ever seen.
France beat us 1-0 in World Cup 2006 semi final in a great defensive display where they gifted us possession while Makelele/Viera/Thuram/Desailly just shut everything around the box down and shackled Deco, knowing we were toothless in the final third.

To have ANY chance we need Pepe back and playing well, William back in the lineup and playing with a fire under him and not the lethargic rhythm he displays at times, and for Santos to just unleash us a bit more offensively...sitting back inviting pressure from those two top teams would be suicidal.

Also while we were ok today so many times in the final third we had loose passes, as if the players had no chemistry...agonizing to watch when we were in great positions...can't afford to do that in the final.

Ya it doesnt mean much, Ronaldo did it in 20 games while Platini just did it in 5 in 1984.

Was rooting for Bale and Wales, but the best players in the world play best when it counts. Pretty clear who that is this year.

ftr Kommander is Ronaldo's nickname on another forum I go to. I just posted this because the "filed his taxes correctly" thing just killed me and I thought it was too funny not to share.

Agreed on all counts except on William Carvalho. Danilo actually has intensity and is better defensively, which is exactly what we need in the final.

While I find it absolutely hilarious that someone would actually write something that stupid in the first place, and that's not to mention it's factually incorrect, it's not nearly as laughable as someone actually copying it and posting it somewhere else.

Since you brought it up, Ronaldo actually has had an issue of tax avoidance in the past where he apparently filed in Ireland as opposed to Portugal so as to pay 50% less in taxes. Not sure if that's the same as the issue with his agent's company as well or if it's another separate issue.

Interesting posting from you in this thread. You jumped to the defense of Ronaldo despite no one even really mentioning him in a negative way (in fact it was quite the opposite). What's far more interesting though is the avatar along with all the rooting for Wales and yet not a peep about Wales here. In fact it's all about Portugal from you instead.

Or to consider Ronaldo's "assists" which were never passes.
