Now we know the reality, which is that Columbus was a 120-point juggernaut trojan horse-ing as a cute and cuddly eighth seed

Is Mackinnon the best pure skater in the entire NHL? Better even than McDavid? The speed this guy generates off his edges is frankly the best I've ever seen. When he hits the blueline, he's moving laterally as fast as he's moving forward. Basically unstoppable in this series. And definitely shoots the puck harder than McDavid.

Best player in the NHL right now imo, and it's not really as close as it might seem.
I can see what you mean by those things, but McDavid just does everything so so well that it's maybe hard to see?
He's the best player on the planet and its by a fair bit, but mack is definitely in the top tier

So Tampa's lineup of small, super-skilled forwards basically flopped in the playoffs. This is a really a surprise to people? In the NHl there's the regular season, then there's the 'real season'.

The refs put away the whistle for fear of giving one team too many pp opportunities. The ice closes down and 'heavy hockey' returns with a vengeance. So all those pretty plays the Bolts made during the regular season while feasting on the pp, basically dried up in this series with the Jackets.

The team that wins the one-on-one puck battles along the walls will prevail in most Cup series. That's why the Jets are still favored to beat the Blues; the Bruins could still come back against the Leafs; and the Knights are having their way with the Sharks.

So what can the Canucks learn? Well, for one thing, they can learn just how far away they really are. Actually watching those Lightning forwards get abused along the walls, it reminded me of the Canucks. Too many forwards like Baertschi, Eriksson, Goldy, Granlund, Sutter, Schaller, Spooner and Motte who simply can't win a board battle.

So even if by some miracle the Canucks were to stagger into the eighth seed next season, they're just not built to go far.

After watching gave four of the Av's-Flames series, all I can say is Wow!. This Avalanche team is a looming power in the Western Conference. Cale Makar looks like the real deal, stepping in from college hockey. And the Av's might have the best group of up and coming forwards in the West. AND they get the fourth overall pick in June--Byram or Cozens added to this group?

If you're a Canucks fan it's more than a little depressing to recall that just two years ago the Av's finished with one of the worst records in the three point, OT era. Now they've got a potential juggernaut on their hands.

Meantime after five years of the Benning era, the Canucks are still stuck in the quagmire of lottery land. And look to be staying there for a few years yet.

They’ve had a rough decade to get here.
2009 finish third worst and draft duchene and ROR
2010 make the playoffs take Hishon
2011 miss and finish second worst. Draft Landy and Siemens in round 1.
2012 miss the playoffs dealing first round pick to Colorado for Varly whom the caps use to take Forsberg
2013 miss playoffs but win lottery and grab mackinnon
2014 make playoffs. Seems like they are what they are today. Take bleakerly in round 1 but he returns to the draft two years later
2015 miss playoffs draft rantanen. Contract issues with ROR and trade him for grigorenko, zadirov, comphter, and a 2nd round pick.
2016 miss playoffs, take Jost in round 1.
2017 worst team in the NAHL. Draft Makar
2018 make the playoffs oin the play in game vs STL. Draft Gaut. Also make the duchene trade.
2019 make the playoffs.

So it’s a long road for them. They had expected to have a pair of 28 year olds in duchene and ROR supporting the charge with their top line. And that they would have been Taking off after their 2014 playoff appearance with duchene, ROR, Landy, MacK. Didn’t happen. Ended up dealing heir 2009 for futures.

Looks good now, but The fans have had to wait longer than they would have expected given heir roster 5 years ago.

No playoff thread because we already forgot what it feels like.

We are more familiar with the draft lottery and its disappointments. They say that if you could collect all the tears of disappointments from Canuck fans that has witnessed the draft lotteries, you could fill a lake.
