Value of: Sergei Bobrovsky

I’m curious to hear what the fans of teams that need a good goalie would be willing to give up to get Bobrovsky out of Columbus. He’s got one year left at $7.45MM. He’s 29, has won 2 Venizas, but has also been average in the playoffs (granted, it was against the Pens twice, Caps once, with two of them going on to win the cup). I don’t think a sign-and-trade is impossible, but it’s also probably not likely.

Kekalainen has repeatedly made splash moves, and it just feels like there’s another one coming down the pike separate from the Panarin negotiations/ potential trade. With Korpisalo showing moments of promise, Merzlikins coming off an elite WC performance, and Bobrovsky due for another raise, I wouldn’t be shocked if CBJ were to trade him. Considering Jarmo usually comes away with the best player in the trade, I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him add to Bobrovsky to get a top-line forward. Either way, CBJ’s primary need is a skilled top-6 forward, preferably a center.

Bobrovsky is not getting a top line forward in return. Goalies have the least value in a trade and with him also taking up a huge chunk of cap, nobody is giving up a legit top line forward for him

I agree, that’s why I put the bit in there about Kekalainen having to add to Bobrovsky to get a top-line forward. If it’s just one year of Bobrovsky, a top-6 type forward is much more likely.

Bob seems like the exact goalie to bring back the Luongo to Vancouver value for goaltenders. Guy is an unreal talent between the pipes and consistently good on a Columbus team that’s never truly had elite talent all at once.

You’re talking about a two time Vezina winner.
A goalie that has put up a .920 save percentage in 5 of the last 6 seasons.
Yeah, he has flaws (particularly playoff performance) still... he is what he is. An elite goalie that can carry a semi-average team into the playoffs, as evidence in past seasons.

But, sure. Let’s act like he doesn’t hold much value/wouldn’t be able to fetch a significant return.

Schneider got Horvat... Bob would get something of worth. Problem is we are a bottom 10 team without Bob at best. We are in Arizona/Buffalo/Montreal territory without him and if Panarin is already waiting to see what he can make trading his best friend is basically see ya bread too. Then we are yhe #3 pick for the next 6 years because we arent ever winning a lottery.

Basically not a good idea.

Starting goaltenders still performing at their peak are almost never traded and if it happens the prerequisites are said player asking for a trade or refusing to sign an extension, which of course mitigates trade value.

And even if it happens, typical return in a trade would be a younger goaltender plus a lesser skater or picks.

Point of correction

Schneider got the pick used to draft horvat. And he was younger and further away from ufa.

I would love to read he is being shopped today. On a meh goalie market, he would be the most talented and established goalie available.

Not sure there is a match with the nyi.
21 yr old Barzal is a nonstarter.
Cannot see the isles giving up a 40 goal scorer in Lee for goaltending.
Something around Eberle (59 pts)?

people wants to trade a top winger for Bob, but when it's time to trade for Price they would trade Lucic for him.

Nice Bias stats you just showed me. Here are his real stats in playoffs.
Oh ya definitely worth the top winger and a better goalie than Price.

.891 and 3.49 career stats. Meanwhile Price is at 2.53 and .914 in playoffs with a much more terrible team in front of him.

LOL

LOL indeed. How many times Price met Pens or Caps in playoffs? ZERO! oh yeah he played Pens for 14 minutes once and faced 3 shots!!! saved all of them. What is his career stats against those clubs? Pens 905 sv% 3.05 GAA, Caps 891 sv% and 3,30 GAA.

I suggest you go look Price stats in the playoffs.
You clearly don't know much about hockey if you think your ghost BoB is worth more than Price ( which was voted best goalie in the world by the players in the league countless of time)

He's gunna want something like Price's deal. Don't know what teams would be willing to pay for 1 year of (most likely) elite goaltending before they either let him walk or shoot themselves in the foot for the next 8 years.

Price just had an atrocious season just before he's about to go into the largest goaltender contract in the League. Of course his market value's going to be lower.

A significant return is not the same as top line player. Read my post more carefully next time. Bob is 10000% not returning a legit top liner

More like two dimes and a nickel as opposed to a quarter

It's only lower because hes a habs. It has nothing to do with a bad contract, His recent string of injuries, or his relatively poor recent play. Its strictly because hes a habs. If he gets traded, hell immediately be viewed as the best goalie in the world again.

I was living in North Van at the time at the time of that trade the Canucks traded him specifically at that pick for Horvat. It was based on the condition he was there at that pick. So you can spin it but he was traded for Horvat. I also probably still am one of his biggest fans I wanted Lu out of Van years before he left to get Schneider in. I believe it was fair then and now still. But the best goalie in the world will get better then a mid level player and a mod pick. 2 veznas and still being in goalie prime years cancels out any age and contract length comparrisons.
