Yes......so if the Canes were wise they would take the whole week before matching to hinder the Habs from doing other moves bc they don't know if the status of that cap space or picks.......kinda of a FU to the Habs team for trying the offer sheet. In reality Habs did the Canes a favour, it was a pretty weak offer sheet......Canes GM more or else mocked it......& laughed.

Yeah they must be pretty happy to pay 21M in bonus in the next 12 months + losing Aho in 5 years when he hit the market.... they must be soooooo glad!!!

If you're made happier by your GM spiting the Carolina Hurricanes than actually having your team....oh, IDK, make the playoffs....you might be a Montreal Canadiens fan

Only thing Montreal gets out of this is the appearance of effort to their fan base. Just comes across as a cheap PR stunt.

As a Habs fan this is exactly my sentiment... Everybody is trying to convince me this is some kind of flex when in reality it looks like desperation to me...

I mean don't get me wrong, I am glad we didn't overpay for some over the hill type player. However, I can't help but feel that for the Habs to be successful all of our prospects have to hit their full potential while keeping in mind Price and Weber's remaining productive years. I am not confident in our current management getting the job done but in the end the prospect pool has improved and I'm hoping for a positive outcome to the patience approach.

Plus the salaries of the player's that get bumped off the roster to make room for the RFA signings (they're at 22 players), and plus the LTIR for Hyman and Dermott if it comes to that.

They also have caused a bit of financial pain to the Canes, the new owner of the Canes, will feel this one.

What teams could realistically go after Marner? I would bet that an offer for Marner would be in the 2 1sts + 2nd + 3rd with a crap ton of bonuses and at 10.5 mil (similar to Bergevin Aho deal).

You do realize how much money we have right?

Bonus money on a front loaded contract is nothing to us, literally peanuts. However, there is a limit to the AAV we would be able to spend, a team would be smarter to offer like 11.5 million, and we would just take the 4 picks.
