Kid being a dick,

I don't think it's being a dick to overvalue your services, especially with the market changing significantly due to the pandemic. He seems to have made a bad decision but that's something that lots of people do every day if I go by some of the trade proposals on here.

If there's ever a time to not pay Anthony Duclair 5+ a year for multiple years it's during a possible shortened season with less income.

Dude is fried if he think 1 decent season in 5 years makes him worth 5 million. Bertuzzi has been a better player than him over the last 2 years and he just got 1 arbitrated year at 3.5 million.

Anthony Mantha got 4x5.7 now. Duclair has 10 less points in ~100 more games than Mantha on his career.

No, but when we look at points alone, Duclair can often look like a guy who should have a 5X5 contract.
No he doesn't.
Duclair has 2 half ppg seasons out of his last 5.
He's put up: 44 in 81 as a rookie, 15 in 58 as a sophmore, 23 in 56 his 3rd year, and 33 in 74 his 4th year.
His 40 points in 66 games? That's some 3.5-4 million RFA shit right there. At best. I wouldn't gamble on him. At best I give him a prove it deal, because he's never proven anything.

Imagine being an allstar in the NHL to being out of the league the next season...I'm sure someone will sign him, but it won't be for his delusional value.

Yup, when you consider better players never even got $5 mil who are in a similar situation, Duclair was insane to turn down that offer. Look at Burakovsky, he just put up 45 pts/58 games and PPG+ in the playoffs and he got a 2 yr x $4.9 mil contract.

He probably was looking for a multi-year deal, lots of guaranteed $ to capitalize on his one decent season. The old Benoit Pouliot special. Maybe even the Oilers will deliver again...

Thankfully the Oilers are full at the forward position and don't have cap :)

At D...there is space.

Duclair will have to get a deal like Kahun to play next season.
Don't see anyone giving him over 2M. Athanasiou will also not get 2M and Hoffman may have to settle for 3M. Good time to be a GM with cap room and a rich owner.

Wonder what the Ottawa offer was, have to believe it was well over 2 million
