Can't understand why no one believes in Formenton. Hmm. Anyways, I am still high on him as he has all the tools, and has shown that in two consecutive camps. No reason to think he cannot do that again this year.

We have a very deep pool, I don't think him being seen as "only" the 8th best should be seen as any kind of slight.

I bet most have him closer to the Norris/Wolanin tier than they do the Abramov/Balcers/Davidsson/goalies tier.

Really? Abramov ahead of Balcers? I don't see it... What has you so high on Abramov (or low on Balcers)?

Formenton. I think it's awesome that he's our #8 prospect. Depth is still there even with Tkachuk, White, Chabot graduating.

I see the highest ceiling of the remaining players in Abramov besides the goalies.

High compete, high skill, much improved skating since junior. He's always around the puck, has really good hockey sense imo. He'll be a factor in all three zones consistently. I've seen people compare him to Cam Atkinson and I like that comparable the most. He'll consistently drive possession.

Balcers is more of a guy who will rely on his speed and shot. More opportunistic and not quite as good in the possession game.

One thing to note though is I haven't seen much of Davidsson, so I could easily see him being here if some reports I've read are accurate.

After Formenton, I have a tier of Balcers, Lajoie, Jaros and Davidsson. Guys who will be regulars on our NHL team but maybe not on good teams.

I think the most of the fanbase believes in him but see him as a high floor low ceiling type of player. Players that project to be really good bottom 6 players don’t get as much love in these types of polls.

I went with Lajoie. I see Formenton as having a ceiling in the Magnus Paajarvi range.

Just wanted to say that Brown and Batherson have red flags for me. Brown just doesn't seem capable of being an effective NHLer, he is missing drive I think. As for Batherson.... he seems to have confidence issues. At least twice, perhaps three times last year he went into major scoring slumps. He went from all star to has been in short order. This could be really problematic in the NHL.

I sure as hell hope I am wrong because if I am right, the rebuild is going to top out way to early.

Jaros and Pinto imo are the guys with the best chance of being top 6/top 4

Formenton will be a good 3rd liner, as will Davidsson...

Abramov, Formenton, Crookshank, Davidsson, Balcers, Chlapik are all pretty close though imo and Pinto really isnt too far ahead

Lajoie and Tychonik are in that tier, too

    I go with Jaros

Regarding Brown/Batherson : AGE and PRO EXPERIENCE, not sure what some expected in their FIRST PRO SEASON, not everyone is a McDavid

    Regarding the last sentence :

Ottawa is very very well positioned for a very successful rebuild. They already have a very deep pool with quality prospects at the top like Brannstom, Batherson, Brown, JBD, Thomson, Norris. Plus, several good young players already in the NHL like Chabot, Tkachuk, White, Wolanin, Duclair, Jaros, etc

The problem is the same as it has been since it became very expensive to operate a NHL team : ownership

It's very hard to know it if will follow through and invest when it's time to. Withing the last year, it DID NOT happen and we ended trading a bunch of under 30 y/o star players.

Without even adding any of the 9 top-120 picks of the next 2 drafts :

    Tkachuk-Brown-Batherson
    Formenton-Norris-White
    Duclair/Balcers-Pageau/Tierney-Brown/Davidsson

Others still in the mix to round out the bottom-6 (some could even rise to Top-6/9 status) : Abramov, Crookshank, Pinto, Veronneau, Gruden, Kastelic, Paul, Carcone, Klimchuk, Kelly, Nurmi...

    Chabot-JBD
    Brannstrom-Thomson
    Wolanin-Jaros
    Tychonick/Lajoie/Alsing

    Sogaard-Gustvasson-Daccord-Hogberg-Mandolese

We seem to be set on defense and goaltending. I hope the focus is going to be drafting forwards with the most potential. We'll have to eventually trade quantity for more quality too, because we're about to produce way too many NHL players.

Put that in the hands of serious ownership committed to win at all costs and the future would be very very bright.

The problem I have with this rebuild when we gonna put the young in the roster because next year we gonna have more cap space to fill.

Well Chabot's extension going to help. It has to be long term and probably around 8 M$ per season

But it's true that so many contracts expire :

    - Boedker 4.0 AAV
    - Pageau 3.1 AAV
    - Hainsey 3.5 AAV
    - Borowiecki 1.2 AAV
    - Anderson : 4.75 AAV
    - Condon 2.4 AAV
    - MacArthur 4.65 AAV (even though it was on LTIR, it helped reach the floor)

    - DeMelo & Ennis under 1.0 AAV

Don't worry they'll spot larger cap hits with declining salary (just like Anisimov)
