Honestly, how does Paul go 24th? I put him around 10th on this list.

it's a floor vs. ceiling argument.

Agreed, but tool wise, Paul can still be seen as pretty enticing. Good skater, huge, strong defensive awareness and uses his body effectively to shield the puck. These big power forwards always take a little longer and while not as flashy, they can be a force multiplier for a couple skilled line-mates. Just look at Tom Wilson, not that Paul is going to have that kind of edge.

He's not going to be the next Benn, but he could still turn out like Ryan Clowe, or Malone. It's a fine line between being an effective power forward to compliment a couple skilled guys that drive the line, and being Colin Greening. If everything clicks, you see these guys open up the ice and make things happen. If it doesn't, the puck dies on their stick.

I haven't been keeping all that much tabs on Paul over the last two years, but from what I recall, the kid has never really had a good 30+ games (in a row) with consistent ice time and linemates at the NHL level. Just a spattering of minutes here and there on the fourth line, and the occasional shift elsewhere, and Bingo/Binghampton time.

I really do wonder what he would look like after a full season getting solid 3rd line time and linemates in Ottawa. (Probably nothing special, but he might look like a legit 3rd liner.)

Paul is already 24, so it's not just floor vs ceiling. He has slipped through the rankings because it's taking time before he can carve a NHL role. He has much more pro experience than others prospects ahead of him. If some of these guys are not established or have not graduated at least when they are 24, they will slip through the rankings as well

That being said, I would be very surprised if Nick Paul, based on his skill-set, size and strength as well as being a very decent skater, could not carve a role in the NHL for a few years.

He should be on the Sens 4th line this year.
