Hogberg forsure. Everyone just seems to have a hard-on for anything that isn't a goalie.

Just read the 2015 rankings. Sad how these things turn out. Chabot white and dzinger are in the league and the rest mostly busted.

Just read the 2015 rankings. Sad how these things turn out. Chabot white and dzinger are in the league and the rest mostly busted.

Well not "exactly" and the situation now is vastly different than it was. The amplitude of the 2011 rebuild was not the same at all. 4 years later in 2015, the pool was really not as good but it's entirely normal since a lot of the good prospects of the recent years had already graduated. That team just had a 99 pts season (which is 35 more than last year). The ones that had graduated in the recent past :

Mark Stone (23, rising top-6 forward)
Mike Hoffman (25, rising top-6 forward)
Mika Zibanejad (22, rising top-6 forward/center)
JG Pageau (22, rising 3rd line center)
Cody Ceci (21, rising 2nd pairing D-man, before Boucher/Dorion destroyed him)
Alex Chiasson (was a really good prospect in Dallas. Didn't end up as a top-6 power forward but is carving himself a decent NHL career)
Robin Lehner (24, was still struggling to solidify himself as a NHLer)
Andrew Hammond (27, looked like the best thing since slice bread although I personally knew it was a short term thing)
Others : Patrick Wiercioch, Mark Borowiecki, Curtis Lazar, Eric Gryba

And some solid vets (compare that with today)

Erik Karlsson (25, best NHL D-man)
Kyle Turris (25, top-6 center)
Bobby Ryan (28, top-6 forward)
Zack Smith (27, solid bottom-6 forward)
Craig Anderson (4 years younger)

The "crippled" :

Marc Methot (30, still played 2 more full seasons with the Sens)
Clarke MacArthur (30 but unfortunately that season was the beginning of the end for Mac)
Milan Michalek (only 30 but a bit the same for Michalek who just had too many injuries in his career)
Jared Cowen (graduated in 2012 but was never the same after his 2012-13 injuries)

===============

Now, that 2015 pool if we were re-ranking it today would be (at least IMO) :

1- Thomas Chabot
2- Colin White
3- Christian Wolanin
4- Ryan Dzingel
5- Christian Jaros
6- Filip Chlapik
7- Joel Daccord
8- Marcus Hogberg
9- Nick Paul
10- Fredrik Claesson
11- Ben Harpur
12- Francis Perron
13- Shane Prince
14- Matt Puempel
15- Max McCormick
and some good/decent AHLers : Cole Schneider, Buddy Robinson, Andreas Englund, Tobias Lindberg

I'm not ranking Mikael Wikstrand because we'll never know how good he could have been

Look at the top-10 and it's really really not as bad as you made it seem... And there's even some cup-of-coffee players after that

Sure, cup-of-coffee players aren't really successes but they're not busts as well. It's hard enough to play in the NHL, in fact most hockey players don't last very long and for multiple reasons, but most of the times it's injuries related. That's something that might happen to some guys in the current prospect pool.

Anyway, COMPARE the talent on that 2015 team and the one right now and I hope for CS than the pool we have today is vastly superior. Melnyk decided to SELL all the best vets on the team for picks and prospects. Pretty useless to look at the 2015 pool, 2012 would be a better comparable, even though nothign compares to the FIRESALE that we've been through

Finally, if there's at least one thing that seem to have survived Bryan Murray, it's drafting.
