Jesse Winchester too looked pretty good to start off his career.
Winchester was an excellent bottom-6 forward until injuries totally derailed his career (he didn't have much time to establish himself more).
He had pretty good advanced stats and was an underrated playmaker. He was lacking a good shot, which prevented him from being a bigger threat offensively.
He looked good because he was good but he's just another victim of injuries. Let's not forget how physical hockey is, and particularly the NHL. You need to be in the best physical conditions to perform at that level, even if you have the talent required.
That being said, not similar players at all. Winchester was a defensive specialist, Veronneau is faster and has more general skill. Both had/have a below average NHL shot though, which limits their success.
