I am trying to find out how the semi finals work for WCH, is there a cross over where the North American division meets the European division? I cannot find this information anywhere.

Yea, there is a cross over.

Finland meets the winner of USA vs Russia match and the other semi final will be Sweden/Czech vs Canada/Slovakia.

This is what I thought originally, but according to CBC, they will re-seed after the QF stage.

Highest ranking Euro-seed will face lower NA seed
+
Highest ranking NA-seed will face lower Euro seed.

Assuming Canada wins :::::: If Russia wins tonight, it will Canada vs Czechs, if USA wins, it will be Canada vs USA. It is because the 4 remainig teams are re-seeded. Canada would be 1st, Finland 2nd, Russia 3rd, USA and Czechs 4th.

If USA wins tonight, The Czechs get 3rd due to an even goal for/goal against, USA is -1 .

I thought so too but I wouldn't be that sure anymore. On a Finnish site they said that Finland would play either USA or Russia in the semi final, unless Slovakia manages to surprise Canada. Now that would make Gurj right, if they had it right on their site.

Do you have a link to this? I looked and cant find anything. I'm confused.

Canada (if victorious) plays again saturday though, since that game is in Toronto and the friday semifinal is in Minny. Right?

That is where things get crazy, USA could play a semi in TO. CBC talked about it during todays game, check their site, I am sure that they will confirm everything during tonights game !

According to the graphic they had at the end of game this afternoon on CBC, it's Finland vs Rus/USA and Czech vs Can/Slo.

2 Scenarios according to CBC ( Assuming Canada Wins )

Tonight Russia wins;

Seed 1 - Canada (3-0)
Seed 2- Finland (2-0-1)
Seed 3- Russia (2-1)
Seed 4- Czechs (1-2)

Seeds 1 vs 4, Seeds 2 vs 3

If USA wins;

Seed 1 - Canada (3-0)
Seed 2 - Finland (2-0-1)
Seed 3 - Czechs (1-2) +1
Seed 4 - USA (1-2) Even

Albino, you didn't look closely, that graphic said "If Canada wins vs Slovakia".

There will be cross over...
If Canada defeats Slovakia, it will be:
FIN vs USA/RUS
CAN vs CZE

If Slovakia pulls and upset, it will be:
FIN vs SVK,
CZE vs USA/RUS

This is incorrect...

They wil re-seed but within the pools.

  • the higher remaining NA seed will play the lower remaining Euro seed.
  • the higher remaining Euro seed will play the lower remaining NA seed.

Ah, I assumed that they meant Slovakia will just take Canada's place playing the Czechs. Makes sense now.

Something had changed at some point because I was 100% certain that there was no cross over, I read it from most publications and all of a sudden there is one now.

It's OK, we all know the NHL wants a USA/Canada final.

Not that crap again. Nothing like giving European teams excuses.
