This is a huge loss. I'm not sure why people think this means we have no shot at a cup now. As long as they don't kill Chara the rest of the season the boys should be able to build off of it. Need hamilton back though.

Am I the only one who doesn't see a big trade happening? Yeah, some of the kids are inexperienced but what better way for them to get better? (As sucky as the reason for it happens to be).

This really blows but we're still strong on D with Hamilton coming back. He's already shown this year he's capable of being out #2 behind Chara.

slim pickins from teams who aren't contenders. maybe tallinder, n.schultz or even klesla if he figures things out.

I'd look within- this is one of the two or three best teams in hockey- and Cassidy is an outstanding developer of defenseman...Morrow they probably wish they had the full year to work on but he's loaded with skill; Miller is a rock on defense; Trotman is young and has very good upside- been derailed with concussions but has eye ball test checked off; and Warsofsky is a guy who is both smart as hell and has a lot of Krug on offense, and maybe a better defensive game.

Cassidy and Dean are the guys you want growing these guys and now we get to see their hard work come to fruition

There is absolutely no reason to trade for anything more than a 1-year rental. No need to trade away picks for an overrated, overpaid fat top 4 defender.

Thank you.

The crazytalk people start in with when something like this happens is crazy. Does anyone really know anything about Byfuglien? Other than when he had a good PO run for Chicago? You don't take an underachieving, fat, already hated (by most Jets fans) defenseman because you lost one for a season. Talk about cap issues going forward. This isn't the time to take a "risk" that affects the future.

For now, you don't trade for anyone. You see how the D plays, especially once Dougie comes back. Then, when we get a little closer to the deadline, you consider making a move. People jumping the gun and saying "ope, we're ****ed, make a trade, get rid of some young depth, first round pick" and what not are out of their minds. It's not a ******* fantasy hockey team. Play with what you have for now and see what happens. Pump the brakes a bit and chill the **** out.

We did just fine in game 7 (sort of ) and the Ranger series without him (and Ference) --lets not panic and see how/if the kids continue to step up.

Bartowski has a chance to shine now --he played awesome with a bigger role last year so I expect to see the same now.

I agree, no need to panic.

Seidenberg missing playoffs games is nothing new. No need to panic. However, Seidenberg's injury doesn't turn Bartkowski into a NHL player.

Does anyone know which D are RH and which are LH?

Sieds was LH but played good on both sides IIRC. These new pairings will be messed up. Can see Boychuck with Chara though.

I'm not worried about the first pairing. Boychuk or Hamilton play outstanding there.

I'm worried about who's going to be playing with Boychuk or Hamilton on the second pairing. You can set out the Bergeron line with them, but I have a feeling that Krug on the second pairing would be a not-so-fun adventure.

Depends on the degree of the tear. But we're talking two tears here, no? ACL and MCL? I'm no doctor, so I won't speculate.

Woof. It's a blow and I'm one of the biggest Moose fans out here, but some folks need to breathe.

This is why you have organizational depth.

It's not like the Bruins are the Leafs. :sarcasm:

The defense as constructed should remain fairly solid in what's a fairly inferior Eastern Conference. As far as "Cup chances" there's a LOT that can happen between now and then.

I do think, however, any idea of trading a guy like McQuaid now (and I'm one who saw it as a possibility) isn't in the cards. They're not in a place where they can afford to sacrifice the traditional stay-at-home defender with size and grit now considering that loss.
