That "dumpy town" is home to the third largest casino in the US...Uncasville also isn't a town, it's a village in Montville, but that's neither here nor there.

Is Montville a township?

I'm curious without trying to mock the whole notion of townships and villages while, way out west here, you have cities within counties and no need (and often too many steep mountains) to subdivide the rest.

Montville is indeed a town...there are at least two other villages in the town too, Mohegan and Oakdale.

I don't care if you call it a town or village. My wife is from the area and I go there all the time. Besides the two local casinos and maybe Mystic, its a dumpy area. Preston, Montville, Griswold, Lisbon, Norwich, it's all the same to me.

He was commenting on my comment about the Phoenix suns and Connecticut Sun.
and the Connecticut Sun were the Orlando Miracle, that's why Cleveland, and Sacramento, and even Houston lost their franchises, the model changed from NBA ownership to private ownership, which the Sun were the 1st under the current model.... even Vegas HAS that with the Aces, who were in San Antonio.

I once saw somebody try to break ground in a California desert. It took them 5 days to drill down less than a foot. But they were Government contractors, so maybe that had something to do with it.

The Agua Caliente gave no public reason, but apparently will give an update soon to the event ticket holders. I'm guessing a reason will be released sometime after that.

The six finalists for the Palm Springs team. The Firebirds are still on the list.

Given that there is no existing team name, I imagine they'll want to tie the name in thematically with whatever the NHL team is to be called.

See, e.g., the Flames calling their franchise the Heat (alongside finalist names Blaze, Fire, Inferno, and Scorch).

I'll made the bold assumption that "Sun" will not be remotely close thematically to the NHL team's name. Firebirds seems a stretch too.

I'd predict Dragons, based on my belief that Kraken will be the NHL team's name. Mythical creatures abound, and Dragons would work better with a Green colour scheme than the other finalists.

I'm not sold on that. There are plenty of examples of AHL names sharing some resemblance to the NHL parent team, I can think of at least 15 over the past 2 decades. But a huge part of the AHL Palm Springs marketing is "We got the heat. Bring on the ice." They were clearly big on the Firebirds, even though it was rejected by the copyright office.

Dragons breathe fire, apparently.

Does this mean the team would likely play elsewhere for a year or two, or would Seattle share an affiliate?

Seattle would likely share an affiliate until construction is finished. It is the same thing VGK did. Expansion teams don't have enough prospects drafted or under contract to fill out an AHL roster anyways, so it would be difficult to fill one out by themselves. The AHL normally has over 30 guys rostered throughout the season, and Seattle likely won't have that many players under contract for their whole organization in their first season.

If the Arena plans fall apart completely, do you think the WHL gives the Kraken permission to ice an AHL team in their home arena?
