Sylvester, NS - The Seattle Kraken took a giant step towards their on-ice debut this fall, naming Dominic Ducharme the first head coach of the expansion franchise.
With future NHL stars Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin in the lineup, Ducharme led the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads to a dominant 2013 Memorial Cup season under the watchful eye of then-Mooseheads season ticket holder and current Kraken general manager Adam Richardson. That season, the Mooseheads finished 58-6-3-1 and lost just once in the President's Cup playoffs.
"Dominic is the type of coach that will help young, talented players reach their full potential," Richardson said. "While we'll be preaching patience to our new but already rabid fan base in Seattle, we're confident Dominic will be there when the corner turns and the Kraken emerge as a contender."
Ducharme, 47, welcomes the challenge of guiding a new team with a first-time GM.
The Kraken now turn their attention to the NHL trade deadline, when rosters for the upcoming expansion draft will begin to look more concrete.
