Somebody was worried about Seattle expansion in J.Jokinen -thread.

How Rasmussen would go to juniors because of expansion draft etc...

That's definitely not true. 1-2 year pros are excluded from 2020 summer expansion draft, and Rasmussen, Zadina, Cholowski etc. everybody drafted at 2018 or later, or having a first pro season at 2018-19 are excluded.

You have to be pro. Hronek has to be protected, because he has already 1 AHL season. And before 2020, he is gonna get 2 extra pro seasons more in AHL/NHL. So he will have 3.

Expansion draft rules were informed to be identical what Vegas expansion had. 7F+3D+1G protection, or 4F+4G+1G.

Our estimated list:

Protected:
1. Larkin
2. Nielsen
(NMC)
3. Mantha
4. Athanasiou
5. Bertuzzi
6. Svechnikov

7. Nyquist (if extended/re-signed) or some optional forward like Abdelkader
----------------------
Also safe:
8. Rasmussen
9. Zadina
10. Veleno
11. Berggren
12. G.Smith
13. Pope
14. Pearson
(college guy, still not a pro)
-------------------
Left exposed:
- Zetterberg contract
- Abdelkader
- Helm
- Glendening
- Turgeon
- Puempel
- Sadowy
- Ehn
- Holmstrom
- Vanek (UFA)
- Witkowski (UFA)
- Frk (UFA)

Defence:
1. DeKeyser
2. Hronek
3. Hicketts/Saarijärvi/Jensen

------------------
Also safe:
4. Cholowski
5. McIsaac
6. Lindström
7. Kotkansalo
8. Holway
9. Regula
10 Setkov
etc.
-----------------
Left exposed:
- Hicketts/Saarijärvi/Jensen
- Sulak
- Green (UFA)
- Ericsson (UFA)
- Daley (UFA)

Goalies:
1. Bernier
---------------
Also safe:
2. Fulcher
3. Rybar
4. Larsson
5. JVP
6. Petruzzelli

-------------
Left exposed:
- Howard (UFA)
- Säteri (UFA)

Pretty much everything is in safe.

Biggest decision comes for the 3rd defensive spot, but I think we have Karlsson or Trouba there at 2020. :P

If those lists are accurate, I don't see a single player I'd care about losing. We'll see if any bubble players change my tune by then, but for now, it's good to know there's essentially no risk.

More great news (factoring in SY probably homecoming in '19)! The only ones I wouldn't wanna lose on the unprotected list are Saarijarvi, Sulak & Turgeon. Possibly Sateri, if he's any good.

I could see them/KH taking Abby for "intangibles" or Helm. Jensen & LGD will be traded by then, if not, who cares.

Bertuzzi (all of 20 pts in 40+ games) and Svechnikov (hasn't even made it yet) have done nothing and aren't important enough right now, that we need to protect them, unless we have no one else who needs protecting. And why would we protect Dekeyser (whether we have no one else or not to protect), as if anyone is willing to take him away for free, we should all be jumping in the streets, as he is a 5 million dollar 6th d-man.

Daley already said that Seattle probably wont get a franchise until the 2021/2022 season, So a lot can change by then. And i'm pretty sure that Frans Nielsen has a Mod-NTC then. So he can be left Un-protected.

What is it you don't like about Nielson?. He is the best 3rd line center since Filpula that we have

Hey i'm a big Nielsen fan? I pretty much stick up for him here. I was thrilled when Holland signed him. Probably a little bit to long in term. But it is what it is. I'm just saying that around the time Seattle gets it's franchise. Nielsen will only have one year left and might want a change of scenery that's all.

Nice work on this! Honestly, I'd like to see every team do this and have one big thread that way we can all see what the potential 2020 expansion draft could look like!

On a playoff team he is probably a #4B, b/c he would be slotted correctly & surrounded by talent on F & D. On a SC contender he is probably a 5a-5b. He could still improve over the next 2 years & increase his trade value

...NTC expires:
CLAUSE DETAILS: Beginning January 1, 2021, submits a list of 10 teams he can not be traded to.
CLAUSE SOURCE: CapFriendly

If we could pawn him off prior to (highly unlikely he'd waive or KH would since he's a undrafted, homegrown Michigan kid) he could probably net a 2nd & decent D-prospect or late 1st w/$ retention @ a future TDL. Personally, I'd love to get rid of him sooner & sign 1-2 legit top pairing guys.

by 2020 (or sooner if possible)
Trouba ? -Pietrangelo ? (UFA)...I know they're both RHD, but we could get creative with the pairings.
Cholo-Hronek
Sulak-Saarijarvi
Lindstrom
Hicketts

...still not sold on Trouba, especially at his UFA price tag, but if he's a Rock Solid #2Defensive Dman who can chip in 30-35+ pts/yr, then $7x7M (in 2020) would be my max offer.

Nielsen's contract was front loaded. Assuming his skating doesn't go in the ditch he is likely to have value around the league come the end of his contract. I leave the other bigger ticket items out there hoping (Holland probably) the Seattle GM bites on one of our higher priced veterans that he knows will be a good dressing room guy for his new team. Hey we can dream but his loyalty to Helm would finally be a beautiful thing if he took him with him...

Of course unfortunately we also need to start anticipating how a lockout and sliding the team back a year impacts this picture. It isn't as simple to project protections and draft year because of the anticipated labor dispute.

Just wondering why you quoted me?

B/C DDK is more than a 6th Dman on probably every NHL team imho. Also to show his NTC expires in Jan 2021, not in 2020 which makes him ineligible for the expansion draft.

For some reason when I post a quote & reply, HFBoards has me log in again & then the quote isn't separate from the post...which to your post is beneath it.
