Might as well have called it "Virtue Signal Arena".

Not a good look from Amazon, whose carbon footprint rose 15% from 2018 to 2019, up to 51.1 megatonnes of CO2 annually. That's more than about two-thirds of the countries on the planet...

Big thread bump, but I just wanted to add that Amazon's carbon footprint rose 19% year-over-year from 2019 to 2020, up to 60.64 megatonnes. See Carbon Footprint

That's more than about 3/4 of the countries on the planet, vs. 2019 data; assuredly even worse comparing to 2020 data by country. "Climate pledge" indeed.

the name is stupid nonsense virtue signalling but this isn’t a great argument when the size of their business also grew 20% year over year so of course their carbon whatever going to grew

Yup.. I hate the term "virtue signalling" because it's meant to crap on anyone who speaks out for progressive ideas, without any consideration of the merit of those ideas. But when an organization is so clearly out of step with the PR they are pushing out, what do you call it? It's almost like we need a new term.

Uhh... "Buying publicity"?
