The Crystal Casino was the 7th floor of the Hotel Fort Garry. It's been banquet space since the early-mid 90's and is now known as the Crystal Ballroom & the Concert Hall Ballroom with the large adjoining hallway bridging the two rooms.

It used to be accessed via what is now the staff elevator directly in front of the Provencher Ballroom.

Okay, thank you for that correction. So not actually in the Penthouse. But I believe you would concur that my other descriptions of the place were mostly accurate?

I haven't seen a post with you describing the venue. I even did a HFBoards search, so I could address your reply.

You simply responded to another post.

"They should impose a dress code where men are not allowed into the building unless they are wearing a suit & tie and women a formal gown. Also ban alcohol sales, the only beverage sold in the arena should be a cross-section of the world's best tea and water. No talking between plays and Beethoven the only music in the arena. No fun allowed!"

I don't believe there was a dress code and my recollection is no music at all. I can't recall if drinking was allowed, but considering Winnipeg's pre 2015 archaic alcochol laws, it wouldn't surprise me if that was true. I was only in the the Crystal Casino prior to gigs in the Palm Room, the Provencher Room or in Club Lambada.

The Hotel Fort Garry wasn't always as "hoity-toity" as it currently is since the Bell family took over ownership. It was actually in receivership during the late 80's-early 90's as I recall. There was even a nightclub in the basement which is now referred to as the Club Room. Much Music's Monica Deol was a nightclub dj there in the mid 80's and her tie to club culture is why she got the Electric Circus gig.

OH. Sorry. My description of the place was in my sarcastic observation, but you're right, I never did spell it out.

They definitely had a dress code, cause I remember having to ooze myself into it :P Proper shoes, no runners, no jeans, men had to wear slacks and a sport coat, though a tie (I believe) wasn't necessary. Women could wear slacks or a dress, bare legs were okay. No liquor was served.

As fitting our French population, roulette was surprisingly popular (relative to industry standards) and still is at Regent and McPhillips, second only to blackjack for table games.

Either way it doesn't matter, but not just True North loves it but the NHL does too. In 2015 I was somewhat weirded out at the fact it was brought back, but thought whatever and went with it. But what I think I'm trying to say that True North will advertise the hell out of it no matter what so it's very likely it's going to be here... forever (insert Spongebob meme here).

I think if anything we could move to Blue only, or whatever the home jerseys are in the future. I love the Whiteout, but more people have home jerseys and it almost shows how much of a cash grab the Whiteout is because people don't want to pay for a jersey so they buy a white t-shirt or if they're willing to go the extra mile a white jersey. But maybe if for some reason or another the NHL makes all home jerseys White then bring it back.

The Polar Storm might be a good name for our new Whiteout.

That's the point of the Whiteout. Almost anyone can participate because most people have something white they can wear not just those with lots of $$$ that can afford to buy a white jersey.

The term 'Whiteout' also makes the most sense as it reflects the weather conditions that we face. You often hear the term on TV and radio warning drivers of "whiteout conditions". I have yet to hear them warn of a "polar storm" coming.

The Whiteout won't die. TNSE has invested in an area for fans to congregate to watch Jets games on a screen outside. They want it to be like other cities where fans do this. When you have 10,000+ people cheering for the team it does nothing but energize the team knowing how much fan support they have. Just because the Jets had bad luck in their home games is no reason to scrap a great concept.

It’s all or nothing. You can’t name the team the Winnipeg Jets and retire numbers and not bring back old traditions. I really wish we decided on a new identity.

Bad luck? Is that what they're calling it now??

Breaking news, opponents not intimidated by organized fan effort, has no effect at all on home ice advantage. And wouldn’t have any effect regardless of whether it was a blueout, whiteout, blackout, orangeout...

Semi-rhetorical question: where do you think home ice advantage comes from?

Last change, players being able to sleep in their own bed versus a hotel bed ... That seems to be about it, and home ice wasn't much of an advantage throughout the Blues series and many others.
