there is ZERO chance we are getting rid of the whiteout... its the envy of many teams in the league and the league head office.

a. the poster is just bitter after that gut punching goal with :15 left last night.

b. why don't the Jets wear white at home during the playoffs? (I'm sure the league would allow this if actually asked)
The Jets should've worn white all along. Home and away!

That military theme certainly does seem consistent with the Whiteout's win-loss record. Did the Light Brigade have a mediocre colonel?
Yes! By Lord Cardigan. They had the military version of a 3-1 lead and in the confusion of battle launched an ill-founded attack to blow it.

Quote:
"The British were winning the Battle of Balaclava when Cardigan received his order to attack the Russians. His cavalry gallantly charged down the valley and were decimated by the heavy Russian guns, suffering 40 percent casualties. It was later revealed that the order was the result of confusion and was not given intentionally. Lord Cardigan, who survived the battle, was hailed as a national hero in Britain."

Logically, the chance to get rid of it was when 2.0 came back - and the home teams were now wearing dark colours.

Too late now. Like “the wave”, I think we are stuck with it until the end of time.

And UNlike “the wave”, I think that’s not such a bad thing.

It is both sad and adorable (sadorable?) to see Jets’ fans consider pulling every lever within their grasp to spark the team to victory. If only our players were that dedicated to team success...

They should impose a dress code where men are not allowed into the building unless they are wearing a suit & tie and women a formal gown. Also ban alcohol sales, the only beverage sold in the arena should be a cross-section of the world's best tea and water. No talking between plays and Beethoven the only music in the arena. No fun allowed!
Don’t sass Beethoven.

The headline in The Free Press would have been "Cardigan near perfect".

Wasn't that pretty much exactly what the Crystal Casino was like on the roof of the Fort Garry?

I've never really liked it going back to the 90s. It was copying Calgary for one thing. And they called it "Charge of the White Brigade" at first. History buffs will know that the Charge of the Light Brigade was a military disaster from the Crimean War which gave rise to Alfred Lord Tennyson''s poem. I wore blue to the last playoff game I attended and i'lI wear it to the next I attend as well.
That only occurred in the 1990 playoffs vs the Oilers. We went 2-1 at home in that series.

True. But it is part of Jets history. It is a proud tradition and it would need a very compelling reason to stop.
It's also part of Jet's history to play kitty-bar-the-door when having a lead. Jets 1.0 was famous for going into a defensive shell in the third period and blowing leads. Seems like we have resurrected that tradition of trying to protect or hold on to a lead instead of by playing the way that got us the lead in the first place.

I don’t have time to answer this question right now. I’m busy polishing my golden horseshoe, looking for a rabbits foot, shining up my lucky coin and eating my lucky charms.
Gotta do my part to make sure the Jets win tomorrow.
Be sure to cross your fingers, toes and eyes. Right after throwing salt over your shoulder that is.

Your Mind
Never understood this line of thinking. It reminds me of those people that didn't want the name 'Jets' because they associated it with a loser. Geez, I guess the Leafs should change their name every few decades since they haven't won a championship in over 50 years. Maybe St. Louis should scrap the 'Blues' name since they have never won the cup in their entire history. There's nothing wrong with traditions like the Whiteout. The fans should be commended for supporting their team at all times and not just when the team wins. Those would be fairweather fans not real fans.

Well neither of those cities lost their team and then got them back....
This isn't even the same franchise.....
So you're example doesn't mean a thing

Actually it does. You pointed out the tradition of the Whiteout was carried forward from a 'loser' team. I simply tied it together with the fact that some people (maybe even you perhaps) also didn't want True North to name the team 'Jets' because the previous incarnation was deemed to be a 'loser' team. Therefore, if a team name is questioned based on winning championships, then there's a number of teams that should change their name. Both the Whiteout and name 'Jets' were worthy of being carried forward because that's what the fans here wanted.

Wearing white looks odd now cause the visitoring team wears white
I think the Jets need to wear white jersey as well at home games or fans start wearing blue tops

It would be nice if the Jets could wear their white jerseys at home. As it is, I don't think the fans wearing blue would have the same effect as the darker color would just blend into the background and look like any other arena on television. The wearing of white is what makes our crowd stand out.

Hey, now we’re getting some interesting discussion going in here!

That place closed down in the late 90s, yeah? Handful of years before I would’ve legally been allowed in there. Always wondered what it was like, seemed a bit too hoity-toity for our city at the time.

It was. Manitoba's general direction for gambling has always had a European flair to it; even today at the Regent and McPhillips, the people who supervise the games are called "inspectors" and not "pit bosses". But yeah, they were going with the "we'll enforce responsible gambling by having standards that you would NEED to be able to afford the gambling losses to meet" (dress code, conduct, etc.)

I was there a couple times when visiting family from back home in my early 20s and I loved it. I thought it was something special. Even though I'm a slob and consider it dressing up to wear my Jets jersey to the casino nowadays ;)

The Crystal Casino was the 7th floor of the Hotel Fort Garry. It's been banquet space since the early-mid 90's and is now known as the Crystal Ballroom & the Concert Hall Ballroom with the large adjoining hallway bridging the two rooms.

It used to be accessed via what is now the staff elevator directly in front of the Provencher Ballroom.
