Scrap the Shootout

was just about to post this. so's a gimmick for sure, but no one here would be complaining if we were winning all of them.

Even if we won every SO I would still complain. SO's decide the outcome of a team sport by a one on one skills competition. Its NOT hockey. I don't care about how the points are broken down. I don't care about TV contracts/programing. I want to be able to watch HOCKEY!

Leaf fans might love the SO if they were winning, but hockey fans ( i.e. love the game beyond their favorite team) tend to hate it because hockey is a team sport and the SO is not.

As for "lol 3 on 3 is a gimmick" ...3 on 3 virtually assures a win with team play (and obviously 4 on 4 does not, thus we have the SO). Regular season schedules will not allow for endless sudden death, and if we don't want ties, then to me this is the best compromise.
No it's not perfect, but it would be better than the SO IMHO.
