NY Rangers takeaways: Igor Shesterkin wins debut despite early goals
you do know that all 14 of Shesterkin’s NHL games were this season, right? It’s not hard to pull the box scores for those.
Yeah. Even though one team was clearly outplayed by the other in the Western Conference games, there was still waaaay more flow. Even the flow-less Islanders had more flow than either team in our series.
You do realize that a third of these are games where we faced 40+ shots? Only two games facing fewer than 30. How is that evidence that Igors playing style stymies shots against?
that Edmonton Chicago game looked like a preseason scrimmage the first 30 mins. Was over 9 mins in. Edmonton and their goalie completely unprepared against a veteran opponent
so a third of what 12 games is a handful of games as I said and we were mostly in control of them completely.
Did you think the D was trash in Game 1?
I thought they did a reasonable job against the heavy forecheck of Carolina. I also thought they did a good job covering the front of the net, clearing rebounds.
Carolina is a good team with really good coaching. This isn't regular season Carolina. They are relentless on the forecheck. It's not solely the responsibility of the D to break that pressure.
I literally did it for you of which he won 12 of 14 just around the same % he did in the KHl and the AHl.
Your argument wasn’t that he wins them, it was that his playing style keeps opponent shots down. Your posts are all over the place and don’t stand up to the record.
And it still managed to be a better game.
Have to mention that the puck wasn’t bouncing nearly as much in the other two games in Toronto as it was in ours. It’s possible that they had the building too cold to start things off and tweaked as the day went along.
I don’t understand how it’s difficult to see the obvious difference in the games Shesterkin plays vs the games hank plays outside the obvious that we won almost all of his starts and weren’t even a 500 team in hanks. I mean if you watch the games which I know you do it’s is very obvious we play a completely different game depending on which of the two are in the net.
So why claim we don’t get outshot when Igor plays when we clearly do
you then claimed that Igor doesn’t give up early goals, only he’s done that too. Which of your claims can we rely on here?
I very clearly said outside of a handful of games that we were in complete control of anyway our shots against in his other starts were down and then I posted them for you. Which they were. We were a 12-2 hockey team with Shesterkin. I’m not sure where you’re going with this. It’s clear as day we play better in front of him. I have now said multiple times it’s not even just about hanks ability to make saves which again he did yesterday. It’s his pinball rebounds and horrid puck play that our defense isn’t good enough to win with.
We weren’t a playoff team without Shesterkin and aren’t now without him
Maybe Igor will prove to be a better goalie than Hank. Igor certainly is our starting goalie of the future. Of course teams play differently in front of different goaltenders. All of them do. Does any of that mean that Igor would do a better job than Hank in this series? No. None of it does.
And by the way we’re going to get outshot most nights it isn’t our style to just throw pucks at the net. Being outshot isn’t as important has limiting shots against which we did way more than not when Shesterkin started or being in control and breaking out
that islanders game was a good example. Shesterkin 7 shots against hank 16 and that’s at our worst.
Care to expand?
Of course it’s only a handful of games. Igor’s only played in a handful of NHL games, and we were outshot in many of them.
If you think I’m arguing that Shesterkin is better than hank in his prime I am not. At least not yet that takes a career of work to decide
do I think Shesterkin makes a huge difference Vs hank in whether we win this series or not absofriggenlutely and I can’t understand how anyone could think differently watching the team play in front of them this year
Did you miss the 100+ posts on here about our D not showing up?
It was your claim, not mine.
Igor has proven to be the best option in his limited playing time. It's not a knock on 38 year old Hank. Igor is in position and recovers more quickly. His rebound control has been significantly better and he is a much better puck handler. Those are the reasons why you count on Igor doing a better job.
I really don't care about those or most peoples opinions on this board. I am asking you why you feel that way.
If you have to ask the question, you didn’t watch the game.
Don’t know if the team would have won yesterday with Igor playing (because all the big boys didn’t bother to show up and play) but I do think it would have been a more competitive game
