They didn't go shopping at the TDL either even though the defense clearly wasn't really ready for a deep run and probably needed to aquire a different 3rd goalie because the injury to the backup goalie forced them to ride Oettinger way too much.

They got 2 good forwards for almost nothing and that helped quite a bit but the other holes remained unfilled .

Its too bad because we’d be in a much better position than we are now.
As Jim Nill has always said, he has to balance the short term and the long term. I'm not sure if you are talking about Brent Burns still, but even if we were better now, we would probably have some regrets similar to what we have on Benn, Seggs, Suter, even Pavs and Hakanpaa, paying too much for too little production and, in Suter's case, seemingly not even bringing the veteran Wiles that can win games. To be fair to Suter, he was pretty good in the first two rounds, but appears to be really tired and mentally tired now.

So, in the cosmic universe, considering everything, I don't really think we would be in an overall better place with Burns right now. Maybe we would be more competitive, maybe not, this year.

Just remember this year is all house money, the real window opens in 2 years when Stank/Wyatt are acclimated and we have money to spend on D depth. Burns would have been nice but no one knew we'd be a contender this year.
