Zdeno Chara participates in morning skate with Bruins - The Boston Globe



Wearing a jaw protector, Bruins captain Zdeno Chara took to the TD Garden ice for the morning skate before Game 5.

Coach Bruce Cassidy said both Chara and Matt Grzelcyk (concussion protocol) were game-time decisions, adding that team doctors have the final say on whether Chara could attempt to play.

“We’ll see how they feel at 7-7:30 tonight,” he said after the optional skate.

Man, whether Chara skates tonight or not, I'm going to feel so conflicted. I trust that he and the team staff will make the right call -- for his health and for the team's success -- but it would be almost as awful to see him miss time as it would be to have him overextend himself and come out worse for wear.

I guess the ideal outcome is that he dresses as the 7th d-man, with the intention that he plays strictly PK minutes; the ref-pendulum swings back a bit towards the Bruins' favor; STL gets only one PP tonight; Chara's only involvement in the successful kill is retrieving an uncontested dump-in which he skyhooks to Marchand for a b-way, shorthanded GWG.
