2022 Cup to Calgary
Bennett easily an 80 point 1C, but Monahan.

Gaudreau easily a 150 P Hart winner, but Monahan.

Tkachuk easily an 80 point Selke winner, but Monahan.

Markstrom a HOF multiple time Vezina winner, but Monahan.

Markstrom ain't that great, and Tkachuk probably wouldn't win a Selke, but yea on the other two

The answers a bit of both. The Flames mishandled Bennett's development horrendously and he desperately needed a change of scenery but at the same time, it's not like he's suddenly going to transform into a point per game player for the rest of his career. He ceiling is still probably around the 30-30 range, which maybe he hits once or twice.

Folks will consider his history with the Flames and write him off but a deeper look would really show just how badly the Flames screwed everything up. Look at the coaches for example - Gulutzan, Peters and then Ward - three guys who will likely never be head coaches in the league again. None of them saw fit to give Bennett a proper chance at center despite that being his natural position. Not once was Gaudreau-Bennett-Lindholm given a proper chance even though Monahan has flat out sucked for a while now. Bennett was bounced around the bottom six, almost always at wing with the occasional spot duty on the top line but at right wing. And then when he didn't immediately put up points, he was written off with clueless coaches and management pigeon-holing him as a third line grinder.

Huberdeau and Duclair are easily the best linemates Bennett has had thus far in NHL while playing center.

Flames fans think Monahan is the worst thing to happen to the game of hockey. They think because Monahan played ahead of him, Bennett got shafted ignoring the fact Bennett is not a good hockey player.

Bennett will be out of the league in 3 years. His shot sucks, his utilization of teammates/playmaying is HORRENDOUS, his hockey IQ is about 14, he takes the dumbest penalties, he uses Jr moves constantly which leads to turnovers. His only NHL quality is his skating which is actually quite good, if nothing else he'll stay in the league because of that.

How there are still Flames fans defending this guy is mind boggling, watch 400 games from this guy and they still think he has "talent" and will break out.

Always Monahan's fault that Sam Bennett sucks, always coaching reasons why Bennett sucks, always linemates why Bennett sucks, maybe Bennett just sucks. But that would mean using logic.

lol

Straw-men arguments and ridiculous statements really do the Bennett haters no favors. Look, a relatively cheap 10-10 energy role player with a history of stepping up in the playoffs, which is a worst case scenario for Bennett, can easily carve out another ten years in this league.

They're not mutually exclusive. A change of scenery can result in a hot streak. Bennett is a streaker but he has never put together enough streaks to be an impact. I hope that changes for him in Florida, where he can support players like Barkov and JoHu.

If he was better than Monahan, he would have shown it.

I hope he continues this. I always thought he was one of the hardest working Flames.

That being said it has been 2 games. We know he can elevate his game in playoffs. He is motivated now to prove a point. We will see if it lasts.

He's always been a #1C talent in a shitty role. No, he's not Crosby or Matthews but he's right there in that ROR / Toews tier.

There was that time in the 2017 preseason against the Coyotes!!!

and then he starts the season on a line with Curtis Lazar
You can't be serious.

His career high is 36 points (or so) and he's 'in that Toews ROR tier"?

Absurd take.

Bennett is no better than Colborne or Jankowski and Colborne had a better year than Bennett ever did and he was out of the league in 2 years after Calgary, Jankowski will be out in 2 as well.

Bennett is smaller than those guys, but plays a much bigger game. That alone had earned Bennett a spot in the league.

Still wish and thought Toronto was going to land Bennett... especially with the no quarantine, playing style, team need (gritt, wing depth and playoff warriors)

Not upset with Foligno, but figured Bennett made too much sense too

Not surprised in the least that he started off on a heater.

Honesty I see no reason why he can’t be in the Horvat tier of centres if he puts his mind to it...

then again Jake Virtanen could be one of the premier power forwards if he put his mind to it. Some guys just don’t want it, but they tease enough talent and skill and they have fans and scouts wanting more.

It seems like he always goes on a little run where you think he’s finally broken out...

Then he goes missing for like 45 games
