I’d rather see Simon with Sid. So pretty much Sheahan. We don’t necessarily have to get rid of him if we don’t need the cap.

This obviously doesn’t have to be the line up but I like those as our top 12 forwards and if we bring in the right guys we can be flexible and keep the balance/diversity (whatever you want to call it) for each line.

Guentzel-Crosby-Simon
Trade-Malkin-Hornqvist
Pearson-Trade-Kessel
ZAR-Cullen-Rust

What do people think about Marcus Johansson?

If we want a fast two-way Swede to help get Geno's mojo back, we could do worse. In his last full season he had 58 points (39 at ES) while playing primarily beside Kuznetsov and Williams - that's a pretty comparable combo to Geno-Horny.

I'm not sure he'd bring enough to the table to be worth what he'd cost us. He's a pure skilled winger who brings little to nothing if he's not scoring. I'd rather go with a lower cost player who's more of a 3rd liner who's fast and physical but who can at times put the puck in the net - but who would also not look out of place on a 3rd/4th line. Ferland or Martinook would both be solid options here depending on how much you want to spend to acquire said winger.

We have that type of D man on the roster. He’ll be back soon-ish.

Move Brassard, Oleksiak (plus picks whatever) to get the 3C and a LW.
The thing is, where do you move Simon and Pearson if you do that.

The line up...

$6M, Crosby, God
Simon, Malkin, Horndog
Pearson, Mr. Useless, The Thrill
ZAR, Cullen on Cialis, Sheahan

Unless you're also moving out a winger to upgrade, it's tough. You think Simon + Brassard and a pick lands us a better package of a 3c and W?

Like if Dallas wanted both for Dickinson/Faksa and Janmark....do you?

A rental that intrigues me is Richard Panik. Think we could use a skilled two-way forward like him on Malkin's left. When Schultz is back I'd be happy to ship away Oleksiak for him in some way.

No reason at all to pay assets to (potentially) make an insignificant upgrade.

Oleksiak out and Panik in, isn't an "insignificant" upgrade. We'd be moving our 7/8th D (while having an equally good 7/8th D in Riikola waiting in the wings) for someone who could help up front.

If you consider Oleksiak to be a particularly valuable asset, by all means. But I think Panik is a decent fit to Riptide's description at least.

Panik is more what we already have. Wasting assets on him is meaningless. How have been the young guys doing in the A? esp Angello and Lafferty.

Panik does nothing we need. He is no better than Simon, and would be a much worse solution with Malkin due to Extreme tunnel vision. He has one good season ever. Why are we talking about Panik? There is a reason he was Yzerman’s first throwaway (among the new breed).

Rig is good depth for us, has largely done well if not with Ruh (duh!) and is one of the primary reasons we could trade a bigger name on D if an opportunity presents itself.
I’d consider Oleksiak way more valuable than Panik.

Anyway.... our depth is such that it is meaningless taking in a winger who is not a clear upgrade on someone.

Its silly but I have this weird feeling that when Schultz comes back that we are gonna have an awkward adjustment period chemistry wise

Making sure Geno doesn't get hurt while doing cartwheels in celebration will be our priority when Schultz come back.

Schultz being back will help Geno tremendously.

Im not sure i see the correlation between it having a significant improvement in Geno's game, certainly hoping he doesnt get hurt. But you're probably right, because it will improve our D (maybe that awkward chemistry period happens or not) which will in turn improve everything else.

Transition.

Geno thrives off the rush, Schultz is a great transition D who can also jump in the play and contribute offensively.

Geno has his best shifts when Letang is doing that for him. Letang primarly plays behind Sid. Schultz would get most of Geno's shift.

That's how it'll help Geno's game.

SDJ is referring to the fact that Geno gets comparatively little Letang-support ES and Schultz is the only other D-man who can really support the forwards... hence would be backing G better than others have.

Ah..I’m late.

Simon-Geno-Horny is starting to generate a lot of really good chances and a decent number is going in. I'm not sure we need to change them and I'd be very reluctant to do so at the cost of Simon next season where he'll be our best player in terms of cheap production.

Edit: p.s. Schultz historically has a fantastic impact on Malkin but I'd worry about any player coming back from that injury.

I just think Janmark on Genos wing would be unreal.

And Dickinson is slick af.
Jason Dickinson steals, dangles around Gibson for silky goal
Jason Dickinson cashes in on loose puck for OT win
Jason Dickinson OT Goal VS. Capitals 11/3/18

Both play with very good pace and have an edge to their game that compliments the Pens lineup.

I dont think the likelihood of it happening is high but I agree. I have always liked him and think he plays a game that is tailor made for Geno.

I'm like Janmarks biggest fan. Guy is amazing as a bottom 6 F. Would excel next to Geno imo.

Plays a very smart game. Fast as hell and can finish.

Having another Rust like player in our lineup would go a long way.

Every Malkin shift should just be a regroup behind the net.

Hit Malkin in stride in the NZ.

See my post above in terms what I was thinking with the lineup. I don’t want to trade Simon and I don’t think JR does either.
