Salary cap and contract questions

Had a couple of questions I was hoping my fellow habs fans could help me answer.

#1 Can someone explain in the easiest way how the Salary cap works? I understand how it works in general terms but is the cap divided by days in a season or in games that leads to certain teams having a lot of cap space at the trade deadline.

#2 Is there any way of seeing what a player needs to do to receive the bonus on their contracts? In cases like Alex Galchenyuk this year or like in cases like what trouble the Iginla bonus caused the bruins on this years cap.

Thank you in advance for any help I could find here.

for #1

yes, it is divided in 186 days. A player with a cap of 5 mil will cost 26,881$ per day (5 000 000/186)

i.e Moen was traded and played for the habs 34 days (18%) with a salary 1.850 mil. Moen will cost 338k in salary cap.
For Gonchar 5mil salary cap remove 18% + 8% retained.
Dal already paid 914k before trading Gonchar. 4.08mil to be paid.
Dal Retain 8%, so 8% of 4.08 = 321k. The habs cost 3.759mil in salary cap.

Vanek was traded last year with 40 days left. his salary cap was 5.750mil but cost 1.180mil for the habs

for #2,
bonuses can be transferred to next season if it cant be covered in the current season.

Iginla signature was 1.8 mil in salary + 4.2 mil in bonus. (3.7 mil counted since he played at least 10 games last season). he didnt get the last 500k bonus. 250k if he scored 30 goals and team wins ECF and another 250k if he scored 30 goals and team wins SCF.

also 917,000$ for Krug and $212,500 Dougie Hamilton in bonuses. Not sure about the details.

as for Galchenyuk, no idea.

Not sure about the first question, but I don't think there's any way to see what a player needs to do to get their bonus.

Sometimes I've heard of the requirements leaking out though
