From the Buffalo News:

While OLN averaged about a .4 rating nationally for its coverage of Round 2, Sabres games have been getting a combined rating close to 20.0 on MSG and CBC. That's 50 times OLN's national average.

Why would anyone from the Buffalo News write that stat? Obviously the ratings would be significantly higher in the Buffalo region than nationally. This is how its always been. Regional ratings for the NHL are pretty good (especially for the playoffs). You can't compare them to national ratings.

Only 20%???

Does that mean that 80% of Buffalo-area residents are not watching the games? For shame.

That would be incredibly successfuly.

I know, I know, I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

A 20 rating is awesome as TV standards go.

Still, it is interesting to think about the other side of the coin. As Cup-crazy as Buffalo has become lately, 4 out of 5 people would still rather watch something else.

do stats like these include the people right on the border watching the series on CBC? How do they measure the American viewers of CBC only?

The measure OLN only since MSG and CBC didn't carry the game in our area. Why are people attacking this. It was mentioned on tonights broadcast it is similar to Superbowl ratings for this area.

From today's Raleigh Observer. (note that CBC is the network of choice for many Buffalo area fans and I don't believe that is measured in these figures. I heard the overall rating in Buffalo for game #3 was 27.0). Clearly one city is a major hockey town and one has a small group of hardcore fans.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Television ratings for the first three games of the Stanley Cup playoffs have been unimpressive in the 22-county Raleigh-Durham TV market and dismal nationally. In Buffalo, though, people are watching:

MAY 20, NBC
RALEIGH: 4.4 (43,350 viewers)

BUFFALO: 31.0 (199,640 viewers)

NATIONAL: 1.0 (1.1 million viewers)

MAY 22, OLN
RALEIGH: 5.1 (50,250 viewers)

BUFFALO: 23.6 (151,980 viewers)

NATIONAL: .64 (705,280 viewers)

MAY 24, OLN
RALEIGH: 4.2 (41,380 viewers)

BUFFALO: 20.1 (129,440 viewers)

NATIONAL: .78 (859,560 viewers)

HOUSEHOLDS

NATIONAL: 110.2 million television households

RALEIGH-DURHAM MARKET: 985,200 television households

BUFFALO MARKET: 644,000 television households

A RATINGS POINT EQUALS 1 PERCENT OF TELEVISION HOUSEHOLDS

I would hope it would be at least .4. Buffalo already isn't a very large market, but has a very large fan base in the region.

No it isn't. Local ratings and national ratings are on different scales. 1 point of national rating is not equal to 1 point of local rating.

You're thinking of share--this is rating points.
