$250,000 is slightly more than minimum wage?
Buffalo is lacking in Dmen for Rochester.....I think if they traded Stewart they would see about getting a Dman just starting his ELC as part of the deal...someone that may project as a 4/6 NHL Dman.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 3, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has signed defenseman Tyson Strachan to a one-year contract.
Strachan (6'3", 215 lbs., 10/30/1984) appeared in 18 games with the Washington Capitals in 2013-14, recording two assists and 28 penalty minutes. He spent the majority of the season with the Hershey Bears (AHL), appearing in 60 games and tallying 19 points (4+15), 56 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating.
Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Strachan (pronounced STRAHK-uhn) has appeared in 138 NHL games in parts of six NHL seasons with St. Louis, Florida and Washington, totaling 15 points (1+14) and 155 penalty minutes.
A native of Melfort, Saskatchewan, Strachan has appeared in parts of eight AHL seasons with Albany, Peoria, San Antonio and Hershey, compiling 87 points (16+71) and 326 penalty minutes in 276 regular-season games.
Release the Strachan!
Borowiecki(sp?) in Ottawa is intriguing.
Compared to Bieksa-lite, or a smarter Weber.
I think its a solid signing. I saw him play in person five times or so for the Caps. Now granted, the Caps had their issues on defence, but he did not look out of place. The following quote is a bit dated, from hockey's future, but lays out his upside well. He should be a solid presense in Rochester, and if needed has the size and experience to fill in in Buffalo.
"Strachan is a defensive defenseman with excellent size. He is a very good skater and is quite mobile. He possesses good puck-handling skills and makes very good outlet passes. One outstanding attribute that Strachan possesses is his blisteringly hard shot. He has shown an ability to join in the offensive rush as well. He uses his great size and his long reach quite well, particularly when clearing the front of the net. He can deliver good, hard checks and doesn’t shy away from the physical aspects of the game. He is also a hard worker. An area where Strachan could stand to improve in is shooting the puck more."
