He was also a man playing against boys in his latter days in Junior. Perhaps he got a bit bored and developed a few bad habits as a result (ie. floating a bit) ... or was he protecting himself after being injured by being tentative? Who knows, but sure glad we got him. I couldn't imagine this current team without Saad on it.

Pretty obvious to me that he was playing through a groin injury and that really slowed his game down in the second half of his draft year. Easy to mistake that with "not playing with effort". Saad looks much more like the player scouts had going Top 10 coming off his NDTP campaign than the 2nd round pick he became after his first year in the OHL.

Saad is for real and he's much more than scoring some pts. He is a complete player in the making. Could be seen as Hossa 2.0 soon around the league.

Comparing Saad to Toews and Hossa isn't really fair to him. Its very doubtful he is ever as good as either, but those are also two of the best 30 forwards on the planet. Frankly he's a perfect second liner, one of the best in the league and he's going to be a really good Hawk for years to come

he played some Top 6 as rookie. He plays over the high paid Bickell in the Top6 again in his 2nd season. He'll get 0.5+ ppg while playing a good two way game. Why isn't it fair to think he will end up as a Top30 player in 4-6 years?

Because there are going to be 30 players drafted Top 5 in the next 6 drafts. There is no way that Saad stays ahead of them because he doesn't have the elite skill set. He definitely has a high end skill set but he doesn't possess any elite skills.

Although Saad is learning to play the right way with the Hawks he will never be the best player on any NHL team he plays on.

Of course, Brandon Saad please prove me wrong. (Unless that means somehow losing him during an expansion draft)
