Correction: It was Brassard+7th for Zibanejad+2nd. We didn't send a 2nd rounder their way. It was the other way around

Which puts him pretty much on par with last year.

Strome is a legit 2nd line center who, when paired with one of the top players in the league, morphs into a top line center. And no, not anyone can do it.

This was a 5th overall pick who was regarded as a bust. He has completely resurrected his career.

I've liked Strome since he got here, but even i thought he wouldn't be here after next trade deadline, but i think now its all but a guarantee he is resigned unless he falls off a cliff next year. Hearing Blackwell talk about him today, watching him on the bench and knowing how hockey smart he is, plus he's seemed to embrace a leadership role with the team, i think he's pretty important to this rebuild at this point.

I keep hearing the "But he plays with Panarin" excuse but those people are still not willing to accept that Panarin is producing at a much higher rate with Strome than with anyone before. Career highs in goals AND assists in just 69 games last season.

Also when Panarin was out he kept putting up points and Kreider had his best stretch of hockey playing with him this year.

Yeah, and even if we accept the fact that "he's only good because of Panarin", why not keep him? Panarin isn't going anywhere.

His contract is one of the best in the league in terms of value.

Strome was good right after the Rangers traded for him, before he was paired with Panarin. He has always been good when with Panarin. And he was just as good when Panarin was on his "hiatus". Time to bury the false narrative about his success is Panarin-dependent. And he has stopped taking so many bad offensive zone penalties this year. He is one of the Ranges best forwards and a bargain as well.

Because Strome isn't a "big name," or there is no perceived room to grow, or that growth won't be achieved because "this player is just not that good and isn't someone you win it all with." Basically he's not shiny, new, exciting. He's a finished product. "He's putting up points, but anyone could do that with Panarin." Meanwhile he kept trucking along while Panarin was out and there was some fanfare, but very little relative to the rest of the usual chatter around Strome.

I feel like people get so hung up on reputation of players, whether it's them personally (based on how they give off-ice or post-game interviews - this is then extrapolated to their on-ice or interpersonal/leadership abilities away from an interview) or their 10+ year old draft day ceiling/expectations and ignore what happens because surely Strome is just blocking someone else with a better profile from being even better with Panarin. The bad usually sticks in memory longer than most of the good that happens and the good that does happen (assisting on Panarin's goals, scoring from Panarin's set ups) is considered things that should just be "givens."

Strome isn't a lock for a max-length contract and surely the team is listening if there are asks about him, but don't go out of your way to fix what aint broken.

"But he plays with Panarin" shouldn't be seen as a negative. Having players play well together is literally the entire point of hockey.

People are dopes and don't realize when they have a good thing going. You can't build a balanced team if you need to pay every player $8 million a year. Strome is earning his contract and then some.

Maybe even give Quinn some credit for Strome's progress? Oh no, that would go against the narrative people have here.

Can the Rangers keep all of Zib, Strome and Buch (+Kreider and Trouba) on big contracts? Who will be the odd man/men out?

I must say I like Strome a lot. I'm still not a fan of his game in the D and neutral zone, but he is very gifted offensively. To see him grow as a person and leader with the Rangers is heartening.

We can't, and not even in the financial sense. Even without a cap, keeping all of Panarin, Strome, Zib, Buch, and Kreider, blocks all but one of Kakko, Laf, and Chytil from the top-6.

So we should take off Crosby and Backstrom.

    I accept.

I mean I would still like to see this continue for another year, but just a little bit.

As much as I HATE it, I have come to accept the fact that Buch is most likely first for the chopping block based on position.

And he’s worth more in a trade, so that’s a silver lining.

It’s a silver lining, but if I could have a wish granted I’d much rather be shed of Kreider.

We need to invest in a real good cap manager like tampa and the leafs....i have no idea how those teams continue to add players.

We will be in the same position once all the buy outs come off the books.
