Perhaps I am being overly critical, but my problem with his decision making is his pinching. Last year he caused quite a few two on ones with poor pinches. With respect to his skating, I don't think he is a slow skater, but he also doesn't appear to be a strong skater. He looks relatively weak on his feet at times.

He was a rookie last season. Don't expect perfect pinches. His skating is fine. No worse than any of our current top 4 dmen.

Make my day.
2 and a a half minutes less than Sbisa the give away machine last night.

Sbisa is doing better in corsi than Stanton (thought I'm suspicious of the accuracy given the Sedins are worst players by far in one game)

It is interesting they are trying to keep the Sbisa Hamhuis pairing out of the defensive end with zone starts but seem content to leave Bieksa Stanton carry the weigh there some games. You would think the guys winning the corsi battle would shifted to the defensive zone starts and the guys with the offensive ability would be shifted to the offensive zone starts. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

It does make some sense, in getting some better puck movers out there in the defensive zone to move the puck up more efficiently. So long as you can trust the guys in their own zone.

The other part of the issue probably comes into play when you factor in that they've had to end up using the Sedins a bit more than they'd seem to ideally like defensively. So smart coaching says you try to get the right D-pairings out there with them when you can. Which isn't really Hamhuis-Sbisa, not really their strength as players. Bieksa and Stanton both seem to work fairly well with the Twins though.

Off topic, but http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1746571

Handy for stat prostitutes such as yourself.

So, we had this discussion prematurely for Tanev as an impending RFA...

Hows abouts we speculate idly on the potential cost of Ryan Stanton's impending RFA deal this coming summer. :D

Any guesses?

Hard to put a price on without him actually you know...playing the season out (just as with Tanev). But in the same sort of vein...based on what we know Stanton is, and where he seems to be headed as a player based on trajectory and whatnot...he's not going to be a $550k super steal of a deal bargain next year and beyond. How much do you pay him? Up to what point is he "great value"?

I was going to say something like a 1.5M x 2 years bridge contract but I think he'd be a UFA after that so I'm not really sure it'd work.

I think he'll still be an RFA after 1 more year so maybe he'll get the same "show me" contract Tanev did this year.

I say we let him go and Benning signs Adam McQuaid to replace him.

If the team uses the cap from removing Garrison (a questionable fit for Willie's system) it should be on someone that can fill the missing role (offensive D). I'm fine with letting Sbisa go but not to bring in McQuaid who IMHO does not fit with Big Willie's style. Benning should be targeting a skilled Dman. The two ex-canucks the team could probably use the most atm would be Kesler and Ehrhoff, so hopefully Benning is looking for equivalents.

It will be extremely hard to fit him in even if they go with guys like Jensen and Horvat and talk Sbisa into a 60% pay cut and keep Tanev under $4m. He'd need to sign for less than $4m or Benning has to forced out Bieksa and Burrows.
