Stanton the Manton has been great for us. Quiet and steady on the back end while contributing offensively. Real good waiver pick up!

About time our professional scouts get something right (though I wonder if it was more from the output from the amateur scouts?)

How this guy fell to us I will never know. I know Chicago has solid depth on defense, but wow they must be kicking themselves. Stanton is absolutely brilliant for a bottom pairing guy.

He's now 6 points away from tying Keith Ballard's totals as a Canuck.

He's also much, much better than Ballard. Cool.

That hurts to think about considering we gave up a 1st (where guys like Etem/Coyle/Kuznetzov where available), a speedy top 6 sniper in Grabner and a solid bottom 6 guy in Bernier for that clown.

How about a blast from the past?

Jeff Paterson ‏@patersonjeff
*Per #Canucks game notes: Ryan Stanton first rookie VAN d-man since Steve Staois in 1997 to record 3A in a game

Actually I like him more than Tanev right now in terms of overall game. But he has faced weaker competition statistically. But he just has so much less 'try' in his game, he seems more poised and more physical.

No...Brookbank and rozi are better. Dalhbeck, johns, dahlstrom, paliotta, ..heck even fournier, brown, and holl are better prospects.

I am glad Stanton got his chance and is doing well with it. He was a good player and did everything the team asked him too. Again our depth makes him going a non-issue. Much like trading former first rounder Olsen for Versteeg...it's all good in Chicago on the blue-line now and going forward.

It's a good cast, Tanev is the defensive specialist (sorry guys, he is what he is right now IMO); Corrado the smooth skating gunslinger; Stanton the jack of all trades.

Seriously though, Stantion has shown a knack for doing the right thing offensively. As calm as Tanev appears on defence, he seems absolutely bewildered to me on offence.

Once he is on the point possibly but Tanev usually makes a great first pass out of his own end and good offensive decisions in the neutral zone.

We are never going to confuse Tanev's shot with that of Sami Salo.

I don't really care about his shot, his rushes and pinches are often suspect and he doesn't know WHEN to put it on net. But yes his passes are uniformly decent.

You see Stanton often feathering in a wrist shot when he sees traffic. You never see Tanev doing that. Also Stanton changes his trajectory based on the situation. To me it's a really noticable difference between the two.
