Saw this post

All the past stanley cup champs have had two way center who can dominate on d and score points
Toews (2010, 2013, 2015), Bergeron (2011), Kopitar (2012, 2014), Crosby (2016, 2017), Backstrom (kind of, 2018), and now ROR (2019).

Hopefully Poehling will be the answer we need to get a player like that

Kotkaniemi also fits a similar mold

They finally started drafting players with a brain, Poehling might not be the most skilled or talented but he gets the game! He skates where the puck will be and doesn't skate after the puck.

I feel like this draft pick will be a home run.

They use a psychologist and stuff lately so maybe they actually saw some red flags, I mean I'm just speculating here but this trade will be fully buried in like 10 years ...

Wait, they saw psychological stuff with Sergachev, but not with Drouin ?

As for Poehling I was not happy drafting a guy whose upside was looking like a 2 way 3C. The fact he scored his goals as a deflection specialist did not reassure me at all lol. But in D + 1 he turned on his offensive ability. Love being wrong on this guy. Two way guys are great, but we need to shoot for guys with top 6 ceilings for forwards.

To me Ryan Poehling is one of the biggest reasons to be excited about the future for this team.
Forget the first game performance and think of what he brings- big, strong, fast, skilled.

He may start in Laval but I doubt he stays there long

Agreed. I like Poehling just as much as I like Kotkaniemi.

It was definitely an impressive 1 game and want to see more before getting bent out of shape.

So do I.

People like Grant McCagg and all the other 'experts" were quick to point out his stats in the NCAA. But when the kid played against his peers, the very best of the world, he didn't just compete, he dominated and won the MVP trophy.

The kid has everything to be a lite Ryan O'Reilly in the making. Until Kotkaniemi grows physically, I'm more stocked about Poehling.

I like both for different reasons. Poehling is just more filled into his body and is the older player

I wouldn’t mind giving him 20-35 games in Laval where he can play top minutes, and adjust to the heavier schedule. Bring him up and insert him right into the lineup. Fully confident. Maybe a little less pressure.

I don’t want to see any of our younger guys (KK RP NJ VM) in situations where they are in and out and up and down the lineup, squeezing the stick because they are afraid of making mistakes. I don’t think anyone thinks that is a good approach.

there's no harm in pointing out his stats, he was on the best team in the NCAA and his team was 2nd in the NCAA in goals at 156 in 39 games. His goal totals were almost 50% less then the previous year, he was 9th on the team in goals, 5th in assists and 6th in points. Tied for 73rd overall in NCAA scoring. The good news is that he was tied for 5th in U-20 scoring, had a good WJC tournament and NHL debut.

I've seen a lot of him and have been saying he's one of our best prospects and a lock to be an NHLer. The question is how much offensive upside does he have, now that he's a pro we'll start to get a better idea as NCAA is hard to gauge NHL production. There's guys I saw a lot of in the NCAA and thought for sure they would do very well (Kristo) or at least be solid role players (Mac Bennett) while others I didn't think they would make it based on their play or style in the NCAA (Pateryn/Butcher etc..)

But it never hurts to point out everything, you can't just talk about the good things.

His stats were good though

He's NHL ready, no doubt. But part of me wants to see him, Suzuki, and Brook all play in Laval together for at least a little bit. Grow and gel together.

That's what the Leafs prospects did, and it worked out pretty well for them.

So DansLesCoulisses is reporting he gained 40 lbs in the offseason. Hopefully he’s pregnant with a LHD

He weighed 170 when he was drafted. Today he's 210.

He's playing in Montreal this year. The only question is, what position is he playing?

a) 4th line Center (ex: Weal-Poehling-Armia)

b) Left wing (ex: Poehling-KK-Lehkonen or Poehling-Domi-Shaw)

c) 2nd line Center (Domi-Poehling-Shaw) Does he, not Duchene, push Domi to the wing?

d) Laval
