Count on Nuge being signed, gang. We know it is going to happen.. the cap hit is the X factor. I am not sure what Holland is going to do here.

And what about the setback this year?
Left side of Kahun,Ennis,Neal, Haas would be the worst in North if not entire NHL.

Oilers are no position to sell Nuge for picks/prospects.

Who is this legit #1 starter who we could throw money on? And what guarantee is that he would be an upgrade over Smith?
Crazy how someone could think of the Oilers contending in any capacity while also advocating for flipping Nuge (or any core member) for futures.

Makes no sense at all.

that's really over stating it. The advancement in the defense alone makes this night and day compared to three years ago. Also, if we don't spend the money on Nuge, it could be spent elsewhere. If it would result in a legit #1 starter, we'd actually be ahead.
We don't need to let Nuge walk in order to afford a #1 goalie. We will have the Larsson salary cap coming off (or down), and we will also have the buyout money from Pouliot and Sekera (decreasing, not gone) to help cushion that.

Edmonton will not trade him

Unfortunutely I could see Nuge beeing the first big signing of the Kraken.

The problem with Nuge is we know exactly what he is, and what he brings.

If he stays on as McDavids LW for the next 8 years, his point production will be:
#1 Left Wing production by age:

28 - 65
29 - 65
30 - 60
31 - 55
32 - 50
33 - 45
34 - 40
35 - 35

If he is a 2C carrying his own line away from McDrai, his point production will be like:
(Matt Duchene and Jordan Staal trajectories as a point of reference - who are both likely better players)
28 - 55
29 - 50
30 - 45
31 - 40
32 - 40
33 - 35
34 - 30
35 - 25

So what's a declining winger with these numbers worth?

The problem with NHL GM's is they pay for the first 2 years with 7-8 year contracts.
But their value is probably the median of those numbers.

On a 7-8 year deal, you are paying Nuge to be a 50 point winger, or a 40 point center
As a d0-over, would we sign Matt Duchene to his same contract at that same age?

My solution is to give him $8m on a 1 year deal.
$7m on 2 years
$6m on 3 years

Hamilton, Dougie, ufa to be for ufa to be...
What happened to his goal scoring??

It would have to be a bigger deal with Bear, Barrie or Larsson included from EDM to open up roster space.

He’s due. His shooting % is less than 2 at the moment and he’s getting chances. He’s still getting points as he leads the team in assists. I don’t see the Canes giving him $8M but could see the Canes giving RNH $7M, thereby letting Aho go back to the wing.
