Eliteprospects...

I was too lazy to go to the league websites and check the up-to-date stats, but here you go:

Tambellini: 50GP, 37G, 26A, 63P, 18PIM
Nejezchleb: 31GP 15G 21A 36P 34PIM
Buchnevich: 40GP, 11G, 15A, 26P, 12PIM

Can't find Skjei's stats at the moment.

The prospects thread has stats for every player updated three or more times per week. Also direct links to the players' profiles on their team or league sites. :)

He's 35. That's not young for the NHL. He's a big guy and never was a great skater. From year to year the game gets exponentially faster and it gets harder for players as they get into their 30's and mid 30's to keep up. The guys who make it into their late 30's or even to 40--there's almost always something special about them. Malone was a good player in his prime. He was never a great player. Drugs or no drugs--his career was probably going to end right about now.

And if he's had agents--one would think he's had financial planners--and he did go to St. Cloud St. U. I believe. And if he graduated he has a degree in something. It may be useful. It may be not.

I agree, however you get a big guy that is willing to play in front of the net in every situation can usually extend his career a season or 2 until every ounce of ability is exhausted. Malone seemed to be done once he was sent down to Hartford.

He tried real hard in the off season and trained longer and harder than anyone else and perhaps if Duclair had not been such a standout in camp Malone would have had more playing time because he seemed to be in really good shape at the time. I think once he got sent down he lost the desire to play and now this is like the 3rd or 4th time he is on waivers, that has to be deflating when not one team want's you. Even the door mat teams. It was to little to late for Malone. I just hope he stays out of trouble.

I wrote in the Hartford thread 4 days ago that this should happen based on Malone's inability to play, so I assume that the management saw what I saw: a man who can no longer play hockey.

He was a 4th liner in Hartford who was used as a PP specialist because speed doesn't matter on the PP as much. Problem is that he couldn't keep up even as an AHL 4th liner. If he wants to continue playing hockey, it will be on the bottom-6 in the ECHL, though I strongly suspect he'll just retire.

The only quest is why did it take the professionals over a half season to figure it out. This guy should have never been signed out of camp.

Malone was signed before camp and has evidently decided to retire--he asked the Rangers to terminate his contract this week. The Rangers could not end his contract without mutual consent.

There was really no risk involved--I didn't think he had anything left in the tank, but once he was waived, didn't have problem with Malone trying to keep his career going.
