No, not around 30 points per season on average, one season with 36 points and one with 30 and everything else in the teens or 20s. An he spent quite a bit of time with Asgard and Murray on the first line as well. I actually wasn’t comparing them at all, was just pointing out to the poster I quoted that she only likes one dimensional players if they are defensive ones.

Also, you say decent 3rd line production, isn’t that where Donato is currently playing? When axelsson was the same age he was in his first year here after 4 years in the Swedish league, 6 goals in 82 games. Donato has scored 6 goals in 18 games in his career so far. I actually agree with others that he should get his legs under him in providence, but it doesn’t seem the bruins feel the same way.

When PJ was a third liner, though, 3rd lines had much more clearly defined roles as shut down lines. Teams didn't really expect them to score much and most of when they did was gravy. You would never use Donato in that role he is a scorer. But yeah, on the main subject, we agree- he ought to be in Providence for a bit.

Yes, much different eras, and I liked axelsson as a player (although I like him a lot more as a scout haha) so I don’t want to give the impression that I didn’t.

Axelsson’s defense was there but he just looked completely lost in the offensive end. Didn’t he learn anything about offense in Sweden??? Man was it painful to watch him out there in the offensive end when the bruins had the puck.

I see what you did there.

Axe's primary responsibility was to be a shut down forward on the third line. Any offense he generated was a bonus. Donato's being touted as a top 6 winger so yes he is expected to score and he's proven that he can do that. However in the Bruins system he still has to be defensively responsible. Right now he isn't and I'm not sure having him learn while the team is trying to position themselves for the playoffs is the right thing to do for either of them. I don't think it would kill him or the Bruins if he spent some time with Providence.

I agree with you 100% and said in a different post that I think he should be in providence learning the pro game. Just needling you a bit because of the avatar, I liked axelsson.

Axe is my all time favorite Bruin. I'm glad he's still with the organization as a scout.

I always loved me some Ax. I never got the hate people had for him. He did his job as a defensive forward to a Selke level. He was as good on that side of the puck as Jere Lehtinen was. But to bring it back to topic, I hope Donato can get him some Ax in his game and the sooner the better.

Apart for one odd man rush not much to show for last game. Had the lowest TOI among forwards with over 2 minutes on PP. I thought he was supposed to be a scorer not a 4th liner.

If Backes is out for a while, I could see Donato getting swapped for Frederic in Providence for a couple games.

However, the Bruins management will probably disappoint most of us and swap him for Cave.

This would be awesome, Frederic had 2 goals and a fight last night. He can’t be worse than Backes as long as he can skate and not give the puck away almost every time he has it in the offensive zone.

I thought donato made some good plays in last nights vancouver game. That pass to spring Kuraly for a break away was a beauty, in stride and perfectly on the tape. Unfortunately Kuraly has no finish and went backhand and completely missed the net.

I would like your insight. What was the other good play he had yesterday? I would like to rewatch it.
You can just post the time in the period or the number of his shift. He had 12 shifts in total yesterday.
What I remember is the whole line couldn't get out of their own zone in the first period. Or the turnover he had on the red line. Or the very soft check in the third period.

Cave is carrying the team in Providence,I wouldn't be so dismissive
I understand, but he was underwhelming in the NHL last season. This is a new season and maybe he's finally ready for the NHL (23 still young enough) but I'm not sure if he is anything more than a tweener like Szwarz. I guess we will see if his number is called.

Donato would do well with 20 minutes a night in Prov and help their offense. I think he just needs a little daylight and consistency to jump start his season right now. It would also help if he can get some chemistry with one of the AHL centers in case they are brought up.

Another uneventful game for Donato. Third game in a row with no shot on goal however still averaging 1:49 minutes on PP. 7 shots in total this season, something gotta give.
At this point I feel almost sorry for the kid. Cassidy is not doing him any favor playing him on the 4th line.
The whole line Donato-Kuraly-Acciari was out of sync, pinned down in d-zone, couldn't muster any offensive pressure.
His confidence is very low right now. It was so obvious during the lone chance he had in the third period. 2 on 1 developing, as he reached the left circle in o-zone he stopped skating . You could see at that moment he started to think what to do. Missed the timing, didn't shoot, didn't pass just kept staring at it. Puck gone.

if he doesn`t start producing, the B`s have to look at potential internal options if there are any cuz right now, he`s doing zippo and I liked the kids game last year understanding he had much to work on but question is, has he?

1 point and the sad part is he isn't doing much to help the team/himself in other areas of the game. Something has to give soon. Smells a little like nepotism. He needs to work on his game and the best place to do that is developing properly in the AHL. Much like Marchand did when he first joined the bruins.

I don't think a little seasoning in the A is a bad thing for Donato at this point. It's at least better than being relegated to a checking line and playing short minutes in a role he's not suited for.

This is very unfortunate. I actually thought he might score 30 this year. Maybe time in Providence will humble him a little and make him understand that an NHL career is not a given and has to be earned. It seems like things have been made way too easy for him.

Humble pie is exactly what he needs / what many of us are thinking. The NCAA sign with us for guaranteed NHL time is becoming more and more obvious.

He's simply not doing enough to justify playing him and giving him PP time. I take it someone owes Teddy a favor?

I wonder if his dad showed him the fine art of skate-fighting?
