Nurmi wasn't signed by the Senators despite his best offensive season to date — 14 g, 14 a in 57 games — for a TPS team that would likely have missed the playoffs.

Obviously things have changed dramatically in terms of the level of play of Liiga in the past few years but was wondering if he will be a late bloomer, similar to Joonas Donskoi?

Donskoi was not signed by the Panthers after being drafted and spent a few more seasons in Finland before coming over and making an impact for the Sharks as a rookie during their run to the Stanley Cup finals in 2015-16. He just completed his fourth season in the NHL.

Nurmi is signed with TPS through 2021-22 but what is his long-term potential?

His skating is not very good and has very limited offensive upside for NHL. Could probably end up being a PK-specialist/4th liner if everything goes right.

Donskoi always had big offensive upside but his skating and physical game were lacking.

Is TPS' success this season a surprise or is that more a case of other clubs struggling.

And are Nurmi's numbers a reflection of him taking big steps in terms of development?
