Russia systematically goofed up. Unfortunately the fallout from that means clean/innocent Russian athletes are going to miss their opportunity to compete in the Olympics as a result.

This makes little sense, because the IOC could have made the logical ruling and simply banned those athletes named in the McLaren report. This fallout is completely of their doing. It is neither transparent nor just.

The IOC banned the Russian Olympic organization from participating. The IOC could have just as easily not allowed any Russian athlete to compete at all. As has similarly happen to countries banned by the IOC in past Olympics.

It’s a weird situation now where the IOC both bans a country while allowing individual athletes to compete from that country.

Did not the IOC, themselves, admit the banned hockey players (Nichushkin, Plotnikov, Beregalov, etc.) are not guilty of breaching anti-doping rules?

The Invitation Review Panel had unspecified concerns regarding their history and decided against inviting them (they are not banned), the reasons could be different in each individual case.

The IOC has a difficult time differentiating between athletes (which are the people that really matter) and powerful individuals that engage in corruption.

Blanket-banning athletes - who have very little power and influence - is a bad thing. The fact that the IOC has done it before reflects poorly on them.

The only thing weird is the IOC still existing while breaking every rule, tradition and mainstay of the olympic movement.

Maybe we should hand out medals out of the same rationale. Because reasons and different concerns athlete A is getting gold and athlete B is excluded from the competition. What an entertaining perspective.

Without systematic doping Russia would not have been excluded. Furthermore it seems that nothing has changed, instead of admitting the guilt and changing the culture all we have are lousy excuses and conspiracy theories. As if the only mistake was getting caught.

Competing in the Olympics is a privilege, not a right. It's up to the IOC to decide whom they wish to invite. Of course in Russia these athletes should be allowed to compete freely.
you should read the olympic charter, even if the IOC does everything to mess with it

Russia was banned for wrongdoing, clean athletes were allowed individually. If someone was not allowed despite being clean, they only have the Russian government and its doping program to blame.

This. In the end, Russian people and athletes should be directing their anger at the people in charge of the doping program and attempts to cover it up. That's what would happen in pretty much every Western country (except maybe Norway as the Johaug case proved). IOC has effed up in the process as well but they're not the cause of the problem. After the initial verdict came out, pretty much all athletes and sports leaders globally thanked the decision evethough some were in favour of a blanket ban.

They should be suing their sports leaders who caused this mess and demand compensation.

That's what YOU want. That's what westerners would do. You always fail to realise Russia is not contaminated by this way of thinking.

Regardless of how one feels about IOC's decision making, this doesn't look good on them and the Olympic process.

Government transparency? Areyou that naive?

If sporting success isn't thay big of an issue why did your countries invest so much into a dirty slamder campaign against Russia?

The hole you dug, you already fell in. We won't let you out onow because you crossed sevwral lines. We were diplomatic with the western hostility quite enough.
I am defiantely not sure about your "we are under siege" mentality here. I also don;t think that Finland has invested so much into anti-russian slander campaign. I understand, it's frustating talking to Jussi sometimes, but your "Vstavai strana ogromnaya, svyashennaya voyna!" attitude is not helping.
