Sam Presti is a genius.

He got first round picks later in the decade for Westbrook and then the king's ransom for Paul George. Houston has the right to swap picks with them in 2021 or 2025 and two unprotected firsts in 2024 and 2026.

There's a non-zero chance the Thunder have multiple years where they have 2 lottery picks in one season multiple times. That's just ****ed. All the while the Rockets and Clippers likely have no rings to show for it.

I can't imagine many teams lining up to take Westbrook's contract. This part of Shams' report is interesting:

Westbrook, who has three years and $123 million remaining on his deal, has expressed the sentiment to Houston officials, sources said. Westbrook has informed team officials that he has been uneasy about the team's accountability and culture, and has a desire to return to his prior, floor-general role in Oklahoma City.

Russell Westbrook wants out of Houston: Sources

Sure sounds like one year playing next to his buddy was more than enough for him. He now wants everything running through him once again.

It was an awful deal because they gave up the better PG in the deal and don't have control of all of those picks but Morey did make sure they're protected in case things go terribly, which is where it looks they're headed. All of those picks are at least lightly protected:

2021 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City (swap, Oklahoma City or Miami incoming)
Oklahoma City will receive the two most favorable of its 2021 1st round pick, Miami's 2021 1st round pick and Houston's 2021 1st round pick protected for selections 1-4 and Houston will receive the least favorable of the three

2024 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City
Houston's 2024 1st round pick to Oklahoma City protected for selections 1-4; if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Houston will instead convey its 2024 2nd round pick and 2025 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City

2025 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City (swap, Oklahoma City incoming)
Oklahoma City has the right to swap its 2025 1st round pick for Houston's 2025 1st round pick protected for selections 1-10 or the L.A. Clippers' 2025 1st round pick (if the Houston pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyable, then Houston's obligation to Oklahoma City will be extinguished)

2026 first round draft pick to Oklahoma City
Houston's 2026 1st round pick to Oklahoma City protected for selections 1-4; if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Houston will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City

Ever since this broke I've tried to think of likely suitors but I just can't think of anyone who'd want that contract. Maybe the Knicks if they strike out on everyone again, but they probably want to save the money for 2021 free agency. Can't imagine the Rockets receive anything of value in return.

I can't imagine the Knicks want to save for free agency when nobody wants to sign in New York.

This may be their best chance at acquiring a "star" - even though I think Westbrook is incredibly overrated and on the downswing in his career.

I heard the Hornets are interested, like really really interested. Triple-Double man will totally help the development of Miles Bridges and Devonte Graham

Woj said on the radio that he gives your organization more cache, and a few more things.
-- He was 11 on the best selling jerseys (teams really take that into account)
-- He'll get you a few more prime-time games because of his brand. Right now when they say the intro's to a matchup they go... Lebron James and the lakers, Kawhi and the clippers, Giannis and the bucks.......................but when you say the knicks who do you say? Julius randle? Barret?
however what he hears is
-- Big Big concern is the contract
-- Big concern is the knees turned 32 yesterday scoped over 4 times.
-- analytics arent kind to him because he sucks at shooting 3's, he shoots 24.5%

good quick interview

How was relationship between him and Donovan?

Bulls could be potential fit if price is right (Meaning if Houston looks more to move him salary then try and garner big value back)

Bulls certainly could use the PR boost as a franchise and Westbrook addition in short term would provide that as well as make this team viable playoff team in East

Would be a terrible move for the bulls

How so?

Organization has very little in way of positive's at this point

Adding Westbrook makes team instantly better and puts Bulls back on map to some extent PR wise

A declining and older player no thanks. Plus a huge player option at the end of his deal.
Let the new pres and gm shape the team through the draft and let the big contracts expire in a year time. Porter, Young, Feliciano and, Santoransky.

Westbrook and Lavine in the same back court would be bonkers. As a neutral, one of the most fun things to watch. If you’re a Bulls fan though, you’d probably be bald by the end of the season.

Knicks have failed in free agency for a decade now so yea, I don't understand why they think this year or next year will be any different. No star players is going to sign there as long as Dolan is the owner.

Westbrook at least gives them a star and someone to sell merchandise. Maybe even make a run at 8th seed.

Only way that trade makes any sense at all is if the Wiz are scared of Wall not regaining form after the injury and 2 years of rehab

Wall looked great a few weeks ago in some workout clips that ended up on social media, but that's still a hell of a hill to climb to regain his form.

Wall is also owed a crap ton of money so I don't get why the Rockets would make that trade. They get worse while not saving money.
