I'd assume it's selling mode for Gretzky unless this team wins a few games in a row.

Maybe deal the 1st if it's for a top 6 player with term
I doubt it. We've heard rumblings for a week or so how upper management thinks this team can make the playoffs.

I agree that with Bouchard coming into the third pair next year, our defense corps is looking up and I'm not sure a move is needed.

Focus should pretty much solely be on forwards IMO.

I think you need to see how the team responds when Klefbom comes back. Somehow we are still in the race.

I think it would be beneficial to have a new GM in place shortly to evaluate players for the rest of the year and see what they're working with.
I'd agree. Not the usual lets keep everyone around as the new GM doesn't know anyone and will need feedback from someone that knows are players

In what world is throwing a rookie on the third pair going to fix our lack of good dmen?

You need a dman for the top, to push everyone else down, or at the very least, a top 4 dman so when 1 of our dmen have a guarenteed terrible year next year, we aren't in this position again.

This team needs 1 top 4 puck moving dman like Hamilton, and then either an elite top 6 forward, or two 20+ goal scoring wingers at the very least.

If Carolina really wants to make the playoffs, I’d be willing to make a dramatic deal that lands us a winger and defenceman:

to Edm: Hamilton, Svechnikov
to Car: Draisaitl, Benning, Yamamoto

The value would depend on how highly Carolina views Svech but I feel like this deal fills two holes and lets RNH become the true second line centreman.
I would trade Draisaitl straight up for Hamilton tbh.

I'll take the elite RHD who makes 3M less over the C making 8.5M who is only useful as a winger stapled to the best player in the league. Draisaitl without McDavid is a 60 point player who can't defend and gets outshot and outscored.

Yeah Hamilton is not elite.

It’s not the end of the world that Drai has chemistry with McDavid. We’d be looking for someone else who can play with McDavid.

What happens to our top 6 if we trade Drai?

McDavid and Nuge. That’s it.

Hamilton is elite. The guy drives offense better than most forwards in the league even. Him and McDavid together would be dynamite.

The problem isn't that he has chemistry with McDavid, it's the fact that he produces like a #3C without him, while being one of the worst defensive players in the NHL.

Maybe Aho not Hamilton.
Aho is untouchable, especially for a return like Draisaitl.

I'd trade Drai for Aho in a heartbeat.

He's younger, cheaper now and will be in the future, could probably turn Jesse into a 60 point player on his wing, and most importantly, doesn't need a Mcdavid on his line to be productive.

I too would trade Draisaitl but not for Dougie freaking Hamilton. It has to be a true elite defender, a real #1 that can make a difference on the back end.

Dougie Hamilton is a difference maker. There are maybe 3 other dmen in the league that can drive offense better than he can.

Oh no, a 90-100 point winger making $8.5. What a darn shame.

Drake Caggiula was technically never a prospect. He went straight to the NHL. He was a free agent signing.

You really need to look at the history of these college UFAs to see how often they turn to nothing. The most successful one in the salary cap era was Tyler Bozak. These guys aren't heralded as highly skilled talents. If they were, they would've been drafted.

Please don't confuse these guys with the players we draft. They're nice depth because they're guys who can step in on an ELC in the instance you lack the prospect depth orginationally. But once that ELC ends, it's best to walk away from a player like Caggiula because $1.5m can get you one or two NHL players in free agency.

I don't care where they come from. All young players have the potential for growth.
A prospect is simply a person regarded as likely to succeed therefore any young player is technically a prospect (regardless of source)

Again, Draft should not be an indicator of where the guy needs to play tomorrow.
All young guys should be treated equal, taught equally, and earn the right to play equally.
Drake would have been absolutely fine playing a 4th line role, getting little bumps in the
lineup when his play elevated.

Paying Drake was simply an over payment for Manning.
Paying a 3rd and Wideman was over payment for Petrovic
Its why PC is gone.

The problem is you’re trying to plug a hole with an defender who isn’t elite and creating a crater where a hole already exists.

We don’t have enough scoring forwards. At this point it doesn’t matter if Drai produces with McDavid only because we don’t have anyone else who can produce that level of offense with McDavid.

Funny how quickly the oilers have gone from scouts out in full force to find offense, back to "be patient".

This organization has no plan, ever.

They have to wait until they have a GM in place. That GM is going to be providing the plan going forward.

If tweets from fringe sources are to be believed Chia Pet nearly made not one but two bone head trades before being sacked.

Several Philly bloggers and tweeters are saying the deal that Talbot blocked was him and pizza boy for Simmonds. Simmonds is UFA in the off season looking for a payday

Trying to track down what the second one was

This was refuted very strongly from the Flyers end.

Chia is literally the worst but I'm not going to jump on him for a rumour with such a weak source especially when it's been refuted.

Seems more like trash that's being echoed.
